We all got COVID at the end of January. Fortunately it was mild to moderate symptoms. Daughter and GF are mostly recovered, but I have some lingering lung issues (which I attribute to having asthma as a child and current sufferer of allergies). Sense of taste is partially back, as is a little bit of smell, but what I smell mostly is cigarette smoke (GF smelt wood smoke when she experienced it). But what’s kicking my ass is fatigue. I felt decent last weekend and had about 8 light chores that I wanted to do, and last week, like the prior 4 was goddamn insane, work wise, so I bonked Friday afternoon. All weekend has been very little (put some stuff away at the garage and headed to the apple store to sort daughters phone...but that’s it. Nothing strenuous. Just got up from a nap and am still wiped. I realize I’m still very fortunate that I’m not in ICU, but goddamn, I want to get back to doing shit.
@highlander Honestly, I only posted to get this response. Award yourself a 6 pack and some chocolate chip cookies!
They let us all go! So, now I'm back home...working. Which beats the alternatives, truth be told.

Called for jury duty. As I am in a society and generally believe this is a good thing, I’m here. Sitting on the ground. At the San Mateo county fairgrounds. Waiting. Last time I actually got sat was in 2003 the trial was 6 weeks long and I needed to come in to work before and after jury duty (company paid me but there was no one to do my work; if there was, they wouldn’t have needed me). So 6 weeks of 14 hour days so that a guy that already got $2.2MM from his insurance company (house burned down) could get $80K more. Again, an obligation, but that ain’t right. Mind, in retrospect I should have told work to fuck off and deal with my absence but I was a company man back then.

GF and I did a big mail/file clean out/shred/recycle thing last weekend. One thing I noted was 2 notices from DMV stating that the registration on one of the cars was overdue. Went downstairs to look, and the tags were fine: Jan 21. I figure it was a glitch and surely I had already paid this, so I shredded them. I got a third notice in the mail today. I checked the registration in the car: Expires 31JAN21. Then I realized: The tags should read Jan 22. Of course, because it's so far overdue, I can't renew on line because...reasons. So they're getting their check and the BMW doesn't go out for a week until I get the new tags...and don't call me 'Shirley'
In space, reverse cowgirl and doggy style are the same position.

But it's still stigmatized as like a personal failing.
Yeah, fuck those people. Also, fuck the people that downplay depression. In my teens, my mother used to say “go visit people in the cancer ward, they have something to be depressed about.”
Ugh, so sorry. I have a light case of GAD...some days I’m anxious for no reason. Therapist said that it could be something I experienced at home when very young (before 4y/o or so....so no direct memory but a physiological response). Meditation works somewhat for me.
As for depression same thing...some days shake out like that. I’m sorry you’re going through this.
@midengine so, I’m winding out on lap 50 this year. What was the big difference you noticed (physical/health wise) between 50 and 60?
@just-jeepin yeah, I remember in my 20’s at my grandparents house and they’d talk about interest rates and Medicare. I’d go watch TV at that point.
OK, Sea Señor made me chuckle. If I ever get a boat, I figured I’d name it ¿401 Que?
@cb said in Slow Boat Progress:
@aremmes Looks solid. I'd be terrified doing anything involving removing or changing the name on a boat, because I'm horribly superstitious like that. The family boat, White Wings, got sold, renamed, and ended up on some rocks.
In any case, how long do you think until you get it in the water?
I understand it can be done but it’s best to have a small ceremony to appease Neptune. Alcohol should be included in said event.
@whoistheleader I shouldn’t have laughed. I did, but I shouldn’t have.
Mainly: when did it start? I know in the 70’s and 80’s you could get a wash and wax, but when did AmmoNYC-style getting down into every nook and cranny start? I mean, I like it and all, but I don’t recall it much before the 90’s but not sure if it was always there, but I was too young to notice...
