I rather enjoy GTA Online (in my walled garden of a Friends session), and this last week they've had some UFOs flying about. I decided to have some fun with it, and wrote a little piece of fiction. It's not quite the normal stuff, but I had fun, so... Enjoy.
As recent as last Friday, the office received reports of an unidentified flying object sighting outside of Paleto Bay. I would have hurried out to see, but was unable, as I heard the reports on Saturday. Motorists reported a sighting out over the water that night, but nothing was there when I took a partner to observe. However, there was a random crack of thunder, despite it being a clear night.
I was lucky enough to receive notification of another sighting on top of Mount Chiliad. I hurried out, grabbing something with four wheel drive. When I came around the corner north of Fort Zancudo I froze in my tracks
Clearly there was something on top of the mountain. I had to get a closer look.
The "alleged" UFO was hovering above the cable car station right at the peak of the mountain. No doubt my Granger had its work cut out for it, but there's a reason I chosen this truck for the climb.
As I got closer, details were easier to see. There were red lights on the outside of the craft with blue at the inner part of its center. It seemed suspended, or to be suspending, a column of white light.
I drove closer, higher and higher up the winding road. I could see it as if it were right in front of me... There it was. I was on the final, perilous track to the top when my vehicle's radio started malfunctioning. The channel got fuzzy, and seemed to change on its own. Then, there was a sudden crack of lightning and my Granger's engine cut out.
My radio returned, the truck turned back on, and the UFO was gone. What on earth had I just seen?
Or... Off earth?
The next day another report came in. Above the lighthouse, north of the quarry. It was already late, so I grabbed a car and drove as fast as I could. Unfortunately when I got there, there was nothing to be found.
The following night was much more fruitful. Another sighting in the mountains, but this time close to Raton Canyon.
It appeared to be above that strange wilderness camp where pants are optional, and they shoot at outsiders. There were numerous reports of people going missing in that area, but I had to press on.
I could not get much closer than this before my vehicle experienced the same glitch as before, despite being a different vehicle entirely. It was gone as soon as I crested the hill.
After a cursory investigation of the antenna it was flying over I had to investigate the aforementioned camp. Needless to say, I was not welcomed.
The next night I had patched myself up and dropped the car off for repairs when the next report came in. It was ignored by the whole office, because it said the unidentified flying object was in the desert where the crazies hang out. I couldn't leave it at that. I grabbed a car and drove.
Yep. There it was. I drove closer. It was hovering noiselessly and motionless (though rotating) over a strange art installation I had never paid much attention to (the whole Sandy Shores area was a pit). Traffic was driving by without the UFO stalling or stopping them. Was this my chance to investigate up close?
No dice... The second my car got to the turnoff to cross the train tracks, it stalled. Lightning shot, and the UFO was gone. Dejected, I continued to the scene to investigate anyway, and couldn't help freezing once I got closer to the art installation.
It was... A UFO clan. They were asking to be taken by any (Alleged) aliens. And despite the (Alleged) UFO being right above them, they were calm and enjoying their night with campfires and beverages.
Getting closer, this seemed to be where the UFO had been centered.
Was this all a lie? Had I fallen for some trick these people had pulled? Were the UFOs just big projections designed to trick me? They couldn't be... All my cars had malfunctioned, and messing with radio waves like that is harder than these folks could have handled... Right?
