    • This is Saab's secret why their old cars make it to 200K miles

      The secret is:

Just by paying 5x the value of the car when new over 20 years of ownership repairs. Simple. You just dont think about the monetary value. Until you do.

Now that Saab has left, all Saab shops charge Dealership Prices for fixing Saabs and inflated hours. So beware if you cant handle some basics. Shit gets expensive fast!

They are charming though - This one is a Mad Swede.

    • How much of a Dumbass Should I be to Rescue another Saab? & Which one?

      turbo2.jpg Capture+_2020-11-22-10-17-24.png

So, suddenly a couple of contenders have entered the stage. How much of an Idiot should I be to get one?

      1991 Saab 900 Turbo - $3000
      Runs
      Bad front shocks and axles
      Good engine at 110K miles
      Nevada Title (Reno)
      Mostly ok paint
Bad fender (could be repairable but needs metal restoration - cannot swap fenders easily)
      No muffler
Tired interior but has replacement seats
      sagging headliner
      Slight misaligned hood
      Misaligned bumper

      1990 Saab 900 S (NA) - $2000
Hasn't been registered in 2 years
      California car
      Interior is decent
      100K miles in engine
Engine looks tired and leaking oil for a long time
      Starts and runs
Straight body but dull paint all around

Not sure. The Turbo would be the easy answer and most of the needs are somewhat optional (repair the body and interior) but will need immediate attention on axles muffler and shocks. Seems to have good history. Saab Lover owner. But the Turbo will easily need another $1500 in work almost right away. Even when all I need is shocks and axles, regular mechanics dont like to take Saabs. Also, knowing myself, I'll try to get the body repairs soon as well.

The non-turbo might need only a repaint but likely a go-over with the engine. Also, It has been non-titled for 2 years in California. The owner doesnt speak a lot of english and I have no good repair history. But being nearly complete in terms of body and interior.

So which one would you pick, dear Oppos. telling me I'm crazy and stupid is also a choice. I can do minor repairs but can't do anything needed a car lift. But these two seem to scratch that weird Swedish itch I have.

Talk me out of the ledge, oppos!

@whoistheleader Its more about costs - Mechanical vs. Body. Also, need to find the right help. I need a body shop willing to repair the metal fenders.

@qaaaaa Thought about. On the non Turbo the interior is good. Swapping body parts is not a choice because SAAB welded the fenders. So gotta cut welds to remove stuff. (Frakkin' swedes) but way too much. I dont want to go bankrupt that quick. LOL
