Iām on record here saying Iād rather be underbiked 5% of the time than overbiked 95% of the time, but I got the bug to have something with a little more travel and really jumped the shark with this one.
Itās a 2021 (maybe?) Specialized Status 140, which were never actually officially released in the US. Not really sure what Spesh was going for with the marketing of this one, but here we are.
Ride impressions: sweet bananas this thing is SLACK; 63.5* head angle in the high setting, which, compared to my epic evo, makes for quite a difference. Climbing with this thing is very much a āwinch and plummetā affair. Youāre not going to win a race to the top, but itāll get you there as long as you keep the pedals turning. The weight doesnāt help. Whereas the epic can accelerate effortlessly on flats or uphill, this thing is basically just ānah man, itās fine, weāll get there eventually.ā
Descending? Sheeeeesh, itās surprisingly nimble and unsurprisingly very stable. Itās 140mm of travel front and rear, and the 36/dpx2 do a pretty good job even though theyāre the more basic dampers. Butcher tires at both ends mean thereās grip for days, but they take a little bit of effort to spin up. The mullet setup will take me a little getting used to, but the bike feels balanced.
Anyway, on mobile, so Iāll leave you with a few pictures.
