My wife’s new, to us, ride. A 2008 Lincoln MKX with 47500 miles. Paid about $11,000 out the door, then had to replace original tires and brakes, which were known about before purchase. Other than a bit of surface rust on underbody components, it is very clean. We were looking at a new CR-V, but the cost just didn’t make sense to us. So far, it’s a great ride. She really likes it.

Saving the Manuals, With a 16 Year Old Audi.
I’m buying my brothers ‘07 Audi A-4. 2.0T AWD, 6-speed stick. He’s kept up on maintenance religiously, just replaced the timing chains and guides. Price is very reasonable, with the family discount. Maybe one day I’ll own a car built within the past 10 years, but it is not this day..

Well, today's the day to talk with the boss..
And let him know I'm headed out the door for a new job.
I'm going to work for the government, and collect those sweet benefits! I just hope the job doesn't completely suck.

Why people buy shitty cars, a perspective.
So, after replacing my worn out '06 Focus with a much lower mileage, rust free and less shitty '08 Focus, it very apparent to me why someone would by such cars as a Mitsubishi Mirage, Dodge Journey/Caravan (RIP) or Chevy Spark. After trading in my 219,600 mile Focus for the whopping total of $300, I cruised back to my house in my new-ish ride. Everything worked. It was a revelation. A car doesn't have to be a buzzy rattle trap with a loud exhaust, so so A/C and squishy brakes. If I was able to afford a new, cheap car (damn college tuition for two kids eating up my $$$), and really didn't give a flying fuck about chassis dynamics, road feel or the latest tech (which I obviously don't as my new (to me) car has very little of those items), climbing out of a worn out shit-box and into almost any new car would be a major step up. Many people are just looking for a good A - B car, that will not cost a lot upfront, be fairly cheap to run, and meet their day to day needs. Criticizing them for what, in their mind, is a sound choice, may be a bit of a leap. The idea that every new car must be able to do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, pull .90g on a skid pad and have a beautiful, tech laden interior has done nothing but drive prices of new cars up to a level that are not affordable for a lot of people. Maybe the buying public will come to their senses and start demanding less expensive cars from the manufacturers.
Yeah, right. They'll just finance that new Ford Lightening for 120 months with a low down payment and 15% APR. Who am I kidding here? Time for another whiskey.

Uncle Dealkillers Real Estate Rant of the Day
I've been in the real estate profession for over 20 years, with the last year working in the public sector at a county office. At least 1 - 2 times a month, sometimes more, a person calls in to ask about delinquent taxes on one or more properties. They do this under the mistaken impression that if they pay a properties tax bill, they somehow gain ownership of said property. I have to patiently explain, over and over again, that there is no mechanism for this to take place, and the only thing that would happen, is the delinquent property owner would have their tax bill paid off. The only way a property can be legally taken in my state, other than a purchase, is through the foreclosure process by the local sheriff's department. It would be placed in auction, and sold to the highest bidder. Paying a delinquent tax bill does not grant ownership rights, you idiot. Thank you, this has been your Uncle Dealkiller's Real Estate Rant of the Day.

Ohio to Colorado & Back
2.5 days out, 5 days there and 2.5 days driving back. My wife, two adult kids and I are now in Davenport IA, and will be back home in Toledo by tomorrow late afternoon. We were just outside Boulder CO, and it was very nice. I’ve never seen the Rocky Mountains before. Nor the plains of Kansas or the fields on Nebraska and Iowa. Damn, I thought Ohio grew a lot of corn and soy beans. We ain’t got shit on these states.
Our new to us Lincoln MKX has been a great drive. Comfy, plenty of power with a full load of luggage and 20 MPG. Not great mpg, but within the realm of acceptable. I can’t wait to be home tho. -
Bought a thing……
I had to drive 50 miles away to get it, but I think I got a pretty good deal. $5,300 out the door.
A 2008 Focus with 97500 miles. Pretty well equipped. 16 inch rims with lots of curb rash, Bluetooth radio and decent paint. No real rust to speak of and the mechanicals seem well sorted. The dealership put on new rotors and pads, engine mount a a few other odds and ends. It’s nice to have a quite, decent little runner that doesn’t look like a complete shit box for once. -
Finally, a new ride for the Mrs. on Mothers Day!

Brought this home today. A 2008 Lincoln MK-X with 48K on the clock. I think I got a pretty good deal, nothing else out there with the features this had, mileage this low at anywhere near the price I paid. Mrs. Dealkiller likes it, as it so much more comfy than the '02 Explorer she was driving. Everything works, it doesn't leak oil, and it is sooo quite. Hope it lasts a for a few years, then maybe a new car for her, and I'll drive this for work. -
You're driving the wrong car, Wanda!
My wife and I are watching WandaVision, and in the last episode Wanda is seen leaving a parking lot, driving a Buick Verano,
. Fine, it's a nice car. But, come on Marvel, you dropped the ball. She should have been driving this!
It's so obvious!
Get it! It's an Envision!
Thank you, I'll let myself out. -
Oppo has been acquired and attached
I’m now branded as an auto enthusiast. Even tho I’m driving a 15 year old, 4 cylinder, automatic, hatchback shitbox.

RE: Are you planning to get the updated Covid shot?
Yep, just talking about that with my wife. As soon as it's available, I'm getting boosted. Several people have come down with the Covid.

RE: Thrifting sometimes pays off
@TheHondaBro My church has a MASSIVE rummage sale the last week in July, and I have helped out at the sale the past 5+ years. We start collecting items the beginning of the year, typically from people who are cleaning out an older parents house or are downsizing. By June, we had 5 large storage units full of stuff. Over the years, I've found many an item, including high quality clothes, patio furniture, assorted tools, kitchen appliances, camping equipment, auto parts, gaming systems, toys and board games. It's also a great way to unload unwanted items as well, as I always try and get rid of more than I come home with. Probably the best deal I came home with, were four Hart Schaffner & Marx suits someone had donated. Cost me $10 each, and had them tailored to fit me for another $50 - $100 a suit. These cost over $600 or more at a dept. store. They fit perfectly and look great.

RE: If you could only watch 5 shows for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
I'll Play:
Star Trek DS-9, as I think it has one of the best story lines for a Sci Fi epic. Babylon 5 a close second.
NOVA from PBS, all the science & pop culture I'll ever need.
Hill Street Blues, on NBC. Gritty as shit police drama before it was really cool.
Dukes of Hazard, 'cause, damn, Daisy Duke was hot as hell, and the General Lee jumped damn near everything.
"How to Drink" on You Tube. If I have to have only 5 shows, at least this one will teach me how to concoct stiff drinks in order to forget that I only have 4 other shows to watch. -
RE: RADwood PNW Photodump
That almost makes me want to get my sons '95 200SX fixed and up to a somewhat show standard. It's only a 1.6 auto, not the big gun SE-R, but it's a cool little car. Unfortunately, I have neither the time, talent or material resources to get that car up to snuff. It's getting a new water pump and some other minor repairs, then it's gonna get a 4 sale sign put on it. Some of the $$ is going to pay for my 07 Audi, and he's going to get my '08 Focus, which is safer, more reliable and can fit his 6'5" frame better. It was a good little car and met its intended use. The cars in your pics are very cool, I really liked that Jeep Cherokee.

RE: What are some iconic first songs on albums?
@beefchips
I saw U2 on this album tour up at the Silverdome in Pontiac MI. It was magical. 90000+ fans singing along to every song. I was probably in my late teens. One of the first concerts I went to. -
RE: Anyone here need a radmobile?
@someassemblyrequired
I've got a 1995 Nissan 200SX, but will soon be selling it. My son doesn't really fit in it, and my wife thinks it's not safe to drive.
He'll be getting my 08 Focus, and I'm looking at a 2007 Audi A4 that my younger brother is finally selling. It's like family automotive musical chairs. -
RE: Should I fly or should I drive?
Dude, I just drove to Colorado & back from Toledo, with my wife & 2 adult kids. Cincy to Kansas is easy peasy. Once you get out of Illinois, troopers are non-existent. Set it on 80 mph and eat miles. You're an Oppo for a reason. That reason is you love to drive. Get in the car, hammer down and get to your destination. Flying is for pussies.

RE: Ohio to Colorado & Back
@Huzer
Yes, it does. Not quite as flat as Kansas tho.
