    • Elderly Ford Escape saves Christmas!

Ford>Airbus. Airbus A-whatever Failed the doorhandles, it didn't get Mrs D. and #2 son home for Christmas. So Dash, #1 son and Otis the big 'ol dog loaded up the suv for a christmas day unplanned Calgary turn around road trip. (not what I had in mind for today) We left at 6:00 AM, it looked like this:8e45c728-7290-40c9-a599-204990dbef77-image.png

We wouldn't have made it out of the city without 4wd and knubly tires (ill advised) It took us 2.5 hours to do the first 115 of 1545 km, fairly smooth sailing after that. When I snapped the pic I had to keep checking that the stick was in park because it felt like we were still moving, no static object like a road or sky for reference. Then the sun came out and we drove and drove and drove. Then we drove and drove some more. 1545 is close to my ragged edge of sanity personal best/worst of 1600 and change. but The whole family was home in our warm house whilst it was still Christmas. • Continuing to lose my (automotive) religion.

I wrote, re-wrote, and deleted this rant twice as the tone kept nosediving into nastiness. It's really only directed at my own demographic: muscle cars are not your cultural heritage. They were a fad amongst mass produced consumer products that lasted a decade that came and went before you were born, and they were not nearly as fast as uncle Rico remembers them being. Chrome, smoke and gasoline are all cool, but maybe we can tone down the reverence for 'the only era of automotive history that counts' and recognize that there were legends, real contenders and magazine cars, and the other 98% is just fishing tales of stuff that got infinitely better as the memories and the stories got longer.

If you missed your 15+ year window to buy a Hemi Challenger it's on you. (you were never going to buy one anyway, so the whale humping greenies are not taking anything away from you quit whining)

This concludes a rant I've ranted before.

    • I had a minor explosion at work today.

20210920_120936~2.jpg This is the hard part of a semi-truck suspension airbag. (unrelated to what I was troubleshootin) I started the engine, let it idle for a few minutes. and the left rear airbag made a sudden, violent exit. It was a pretty loud pop, I was around the corner from it when it happened. If you look closely you can see a thumb sized hole blown through quarter inch cast aluminum. It left a divot under the truck and bounced about 10 feet behind the truck with a small trail of nuts and washers behind it leading to ground zero. Remember to wear a full set of plate armour and sacrifice a chicken to your god before messing with fartliners.

20211013_103152.jpg I didn't actually buy it. But I'm glad to live in a world where this exists. Spotted at Princess Auto, which sells every goddamn thing under the sun EXCEPT a single 1/4 drive 10mm socket.

    • HI everybody! Dash continues to exist!

Hey my Oppos, sorry I haven't been around. Had Christmas, new years and onto 2021 . I've got a friend building a locost (very lo cost as it's currently an 83 delta 88) so I'll have some updates on that once it's not super lockdown (there not here) We're full steam ahead, I think casinos are closed and that's about it.

No covid in our house but know a few folks who got it. Corvair is still crashed. I'm having some extensive foundation repair done this year so that's likely where the convertible money will go this year, oh well, someday.

I hope this note finds my internet friends all here and keepin' on keepin on.

      Love from the wastelands,

      20211008_122641.jpg 20211008_165108-1.jpg

Used Cloverdale epoxy through an affordable 2.3 tip (firehose) paint gun. the results are in: all one colour. Now that its a car again doing a few dents is no big deal.

On extremely old Goodyear bias ply tires, appears to have 1968 sask plate on front. It's been sitting an awfully long time. Now just need to arrange transport, storage etc as it'll probably stay in one piece until 2023. here's a possibly broken link to more photos: https://mcdougallbay.com/bid.php?arg='{7169F8EB-F568-4B58-8CEF-4B7E797EBB9A}'#

@WhoIsTheLeader Manual RWD Nitro. I know where it's sitting if you have to have one. Sold it, it immediately got a big ass stereo, some stuff blacked out and zero maintenance.

@facw I'd flipped past that show, when flipping channels was a thing, but I'd obviously never seen the intro. A little bizarre.

@GrindIntoSecond I did watch the first few years of TNG, and have been given a binder with probably all of it on blu ray, so someday I'll get around to it.
