My 2011 Camry’s rear brakes started making some noise on the drivers side so I redid the rear brakes this morning. I had uneven pad wear and the outside pad was down to some slight bare metal. The inner pad was good but was so stuck in place I had to put a screwdriver on the edge and hammer it out. It was really stuck. The caliper seems fine. It was easy to push the piston back in place so I think the pad got jammed and led to the outside pad doing most of the work. The other side was fine but I did pads on that side too to match it. I also lubed the slide pins which were hard to move before lubing. I also put some grease between the outer edge of the pads and the slides. After bolting everything back together it feels better now while braking and the noise is gone. If anyone has thoughts on the stuck pad or if maybe the caliper is sticking let me know.
It was the first time working on my car at my apartment complex. It’s Sunday so you don’t see staff or maintenance people moving around which is good. I’m not sure what’s allowed in the parking lot. Overall I think it went well.
It’s at 178,000 miles now. It’s still holding up well so I’m planning on running it for a while longer. It’s been a really bad couple of years with finding work and my mental health and so I’m trying to save and pay off debt that accrued while I was trying to get by and keep my apartment so I wasn’t living in my car. Not having a car payment helps especially with how much cars are now. I bought this for $5000 in 2018 with 121,000 miles. It costs a lot more to get a similar condition vehicle now.
I’ve also started hormone replacement therapy and have been on it for 4 weeks now and have been feeling better mentally and have started seeing some changes which has been helping. I am glad I have started transitioning. I also went to motor city pride this year and am starting to come out to more people. I hung a pride flag I got there too. ![alt text](image url)
I’ve also been losing weight which is good for me.
I’ve also been at my new job for about a month and a half now. It’s hard physically but is full time with good benefits. Things are getting better financially. I am driving a lot more. It’s about 40 miles each way to get there. So I’ll be racking miles up for a while. I might move closer when my lease ends in December.
It’s been a lot of change going on but I think things are heading in a positive direction for me on all fronts.
