Unexpected favourite rim designs
-
A friend of mine bought a Phase 1 mk 2 Clio 1.6 16v earlier this year, and I've gotta say, the rims on that car are one of my favourite designs ever. They look great and very late 90s.
I think they really suit the car too.
Do you guys have any favourite rims that aren't necessarily all that well known?
-
i prefer steel wheels myself.
-
The almost mythical Sunraysia rim...
-
On modern cars, i always liked those :
-
@borsuq I really liked the wheels on my '98 S-10 I used to have.
-
I could go on and on about favorite wheels, but a lot of them are common or predictable. But heres one I like thats a bit of an odd choice. Its a stock wheel for a ~2015 Ford Escape.
[I cant figure out how to link images]

In general I prefer OEM wheels. The two exceptions I make are Ronal R10 Turbos and Status Grinders.
-
80's Ronal 5 spoke
TSW Hockenheim center nut (ooooo hubba hubba)
-
Kelsey-Hayes recalled wheels.
-
I shouldn't like 3 spokes, but yet here we are.
-
Yeah that's cool, but it's no Ronal Bear

@borsuq
I love the wheels on the original Isuzu Impulse. So incredibly '80s.
I'd love to find a set of these simple Mazda6 wheels for my Mazda5. It's a basic design, but the twist to the spokes gives them a little extra style.
And I may be crucified for this, but I prefer the look of the classic 'cookie cutter' Porsche wheels over the Fuchs alloys. But then again, I prefer the look of the 911 Targa over the coupe, so people already think my tastes are a bit off...

I don't know if I've ever seen those before, those are awesome!!!
-
@shop-teacher I had the previous gen. I preferred them to those ones. Too fawncy for me I guess.
-
My second 4th gen Prelude had 1995 SE wheels on it (example pictured)
There was an ultra-rare variant of these that had the inner face painted red, and the Prelude logo in the center cap instead of the H logo. I’ve only ever seen two of them.

Still a huge fan of the Volvo Pegasus wheels. Mmmmmmm Pegasus.
-
Mitsubishi wheels, used from 1986-1988:
FWIW, the '87 Galant had the same bolt pattern as a '95 Accord. Also, Starion wheels were awesome:
-
This is getting away from 'unexpected' in the thread heading but my favorite wheels are the classics. Classic Fuchs, Porsche telephone dial, American Racing Torq-Thrust, Volks TE-37.
Back to unexpected wheels are the deep dish O.Z. Volcanos I had on my turbo minivan.
@nth256 ooh, Starion, yes. I seem to recall Supras came with something similar?
-
Mugen heatsink wheels!
-
@vincentmalamute i actually have a set of Rial Viper that have a similar design (but shallower) in my cellar that i bought for my A4 but i never mounted them and bought OEM wheels instead
They are like this (too lazy to search for old pics on my phone right now) :
-
@jb-boin yeah, those Rials are bit too plain. Yes, the Volcano spokes would similarly be a bit plain but their huge dish is what makes them attractive to me. Dish is better appreciated in this photo.
-
@the-compromiser I liked those ones too.
