An evening musing

Two wheels good. Splashing through puddles also good, with fenders installed now!
Added a bunch of chain lube and, lo and behold, the bike actually shifts between the 34t and 50t chainrings now. What a relief-definitely still looking at/planning upgrades but good to be riding without hassle again.
-
How well does that front one work?
-
That's a good looking bike
-
@hfv hmm... mixed reviews. Does a good job with spray coming up from the wheel, but a little bit definitely still shoots up ahead of the fork. The rear one works great though, and I was deliberately playing around in puddled areas haha
@jminer thanks! Love the color, wish it was an option on the fancier Konas. Though they do have a fantastic purple...
-
Gotta dig my fenders out for the orange bike.
-
@spacekraken If you ever decide you want better fender coverage, Planet Bike and SKS make excellent choices. I've been using Planet Bike fenders on my road bike for years. They're tough enough to handle 70+ mph while on top of my car.
You'll find they keep you a lot drier than the shorties you have mounted. I used a set of short fenders on my MTB and discovered that the only really protected me from the seat up. My legs and feet and the whole bike got covered in road grime. I'd even get that spray in my face from the front tire if I didn't slow down. I have none of those issues with my current setup.

+1 on planet bike. Add on your own extended mudflaps for ultimate coverage
-
@ibrad Neat. I don't think I'd add it to my bike. I still stand it up on the back wheel for maneuvering in tight spaces like between the garage and my office where I set up the trainer. I have enough trouble keeping the fender from dragging on the tile!
-
@bicyclebuck Would definitely be a pain for maneuvering/trainer. Also harder to add on the narrower road fenders (although I have done it successfully)
That was my commuter bike and is now my general purpose/touring bike. with those flaps on front and back you can ride through the worst slush/snow/mud and your drivetrain (and feet) stays nice and dry.
I did end up on kind of an adventure exploring some trails last summer on that bike and wound up in water over the tops of the wheels. the fenders didn't work so well then.
that's a nice looking bike you've got there btw1
-
@ibrad Thanks! I'm still looking to upgrade it to touring wheels with disc brakes, at least on the front. It's an investment that I want to make, but have hesitated because the bike rides fine without the upgrade. Maybe someday when I wear out the current wheels.
-
@bicyclebuck Agreed on the Planet Bike fenders. Have them on our CX bikes as well as my semi-recumbent. They are quality and do the job well.
-

I've got fenders on my bike too, they are just hard to see.
-
@ibRAD @BicycleBuck Thanks! Definitely will consider those at some point. Part of why I got these ones is so they'd work on an eventual MTB, haha. But my e-bike has full fenders and it's definitely a lot better.
@Highlander found them?
