Epic Corvette Shop

Stopped by a performance shop that specializes in Corvettes. I met Frank at Radwood LA last year and had a long conversation about racing C4s cause he race back in the day and still does. Definitely mead me trust his work. So I told myself if I needed mechanical help, I would hit him up. Anyone in the LA area need performance car work I would suggest Frank's Performance.
You know it is a good shop when you pull in and the first thing you find is a Callaway Aero body C4 vert
I think the Callaway rear end is my favorite part. I love the taillights
I have never been a fan of the aero front end, but the supernatural front end makes my pants tight.
Fun thing to notice the little aero fillers for the mirrorsFrank was super knowledgeable and we jacked up my car to look at the oil leak I was having to find an estimate. We found my oil pressure sensors were leaking pretty badly and just pumping out oil. So we chatted and I am willing to do that job myself and he was all fine by that. Heck didn't even charge me for looking around, so definitely a top notch guy. Spent over an hour there just swapping stories and talking cars. I'll have to make it to one of his vette shows here sometime.
The think I was most stocked about was the C4 racecar he built and raced back in the day. he still has it, though it has been retired and is currently in pieces piled on top of itself after having to move shops recently. But damn you can see the race car. I want it so badly as that is my dream C4.
Now that is a pile of car I would do dirty things to own
Cage would need to be reassessed to have a passenger if need be
That is exactly where I want my exhaust to exit.
In there is a 600+ hp 383 ... DAMN!Wonder if he'd trade my regular C4 for it?
He did really like where I was going with the car. Good new bushings, sparco seats, and the like. Said he missed seeing people make these cars spirited drivers or racers as no one really does it much. Was really digging the seats the most though lol.
Bonus hot rod van and rx-7 race car

Hey! Tags are working! yours is the first article where I noticed them (maybe because they stand out in BLUE now that I have gone to the darkside for display format?) Either way, nice Corvette shop and a great find for when you need serious backup and/or parts
-
@jayvincent I have been tagging everything I post, but yeah I think they show up better in dark mode
-
@jayvincent it is nice to have a good shop to go to when need be and yeah finding harder parts if need be. Likely the guy is going to buy my old trans too so that is nice.

@captdale-is-secretly-british I wonder what a guy like this thinks about the Corvette, especially c5, and c6 becoming the new go-to grassroots drift car.

We chatted about that as he does a lot of work on those generations too. He loves and thinks racing anything Corvette is good. I was telling him how my dream vette is a C6z and we talked about whether I'd sell the C4 for one or have both, to which my response was, "I'd like to have both but if push came to shove I would take the C6Z I think because the C6.R is just the race car to me." He seemed to understand and we talked about racing cars and which was better. His response was probably the best I've heard when he said, "You know I got into racing each generation as they had their hay day. Me and a buddy were recently building a C6 based race car, but we have kind of stopped because finding a class you can and want to race a C6 in is hard these days so we weren't sure what to build it for. So that is on hold, but honestly if people want to go autocrossing, wheel to wheel, or any other sort of racing just build and race the car that will put the biggest smile in your face. At the end of the day if you win but hate your car, you're not having as much fun as the guy in the middle of the pack beaming ear to ear."

@captdale-is-secretly-british that is a really good attitude! And one that’s hard to find in the days of social media, and arm chair debates about horse power, and specs. In the end just pick the car that makes you happy.

That is my view on cars too so I really appreciated hearing it from him. It is the old mantra of, " If you don't look back at your car after parking and walking away, you bought the wrong car." The is something I definitely feel is true and I am not sure I have ever not looked back at the C4.
-
@captdale-is-secretly-british I feel the same about my e90. It’s not really a special car, but every time I walk up to it I smile.

I love the tape on the old Pontiac can over van. The Chevy versions were butt ugly but the Pontiacs were ok. Kind of a rally look.
I'm not super into Vetted but I love when they are actually used for what they were designed for.
-
@whoistheleader that is a Pontiac van? We had assumed a dodge or Ford of some sort. The light rally treatment is nice.
I've become more a vette person the more I own mine lol
-
@captdale-is-secretly-british Sorry, GMC, but the grille looks Pontiacish.
Here's a very similar GMC panel van from the mid to late 60s, one of the first of the cab over Detroit vans.
The Chevy versions were a lot uglier for some reason.

@whoistheleader Super cool. Thanks for the information!
