Quick 'Hyphen' appearance update!
-
Just letting everybody know that @Jb-boin made some appearance tweaks to the site today that you may have noticed that @jminer has now injected!
These were to fix a few requests from the populous....horizontal rules are now slightly darker on the light theme (but still just as visible as they always were on the dark theme...have no fear my fellow dark-siders!):
You'll also notice that font sizes have changed a little bit - signatures are now smaller and better defined, as per request. There is now a 75-character limit on them to give everybody sigs of a uniform length that don't intrude too much into the experience as you read along.
'Quote' and 'Reply' buttons in threads are now different colors to the usual blue/white buttons to visually differentiate them and have been given borders and backgrounds that match from the light theme to the dark theme.
Usernames on the left were also tweaked - there should be less issues with long usernames sticking into post content.
Work slowly continues, so make sure to thank your friendly neighbourhood @jminer , @Jb-boin and @nickhasanexocet !

They are pretty awesome but we can't let them get too much praise too soon.
-
@silentbutnotreallydeadly Their heads won't fit their helmets anymore if we're not careful?
-
I just want to come out and say all you dark theme folks are monsters
-
@jminer I like dark themes in Adobe illustrator and other design programs as it makes it easier to see the edge of the white artboard but otherwise ewwwww gross.
-
@whoistheleader makes sense there, but as a default for everything? No thank you.
-
@jminer Discord is still set to dark for me as I haven't bothered to change it but I definitely wouldn't want it on everything.
Come to the light side, everyone!
-
@jminer oh, since you're such a computer expert, I've been having this weird problem with chrome pages bleeding through my computer screen on dark pages and apps. Here's the Oppo logo still visible on Illustrator:
You just reminded me about how all my dark theme design apps are bugging me and videos look like they have a whatever chrome page watermark. It's really odd. It's even on my computer's lock screen. Any idea? It's whatever page was up when I close it, I think.
-
@whoistheleader uhhhhh..... I think you have a ghost in your computer. I've never seen that before and frankly don't know where to start.
-
@jminer it's not a problem with the screen as it happens even when the pixels are displaying a darker color. Chrome just has decided to bleed into my other computer stuff. Must be jealous of all the time Illustrator has had recently. I've had it off and on basically the entire time I've had this laptop but it has gotten worse. I usually leave a less obtrusive PDF up that doesn't show up much just for this.
HOLD UP!
Just realized that InDesign is bleeding into Illustrator and Illustrator is bleeding into InDesign when I flip back between them
So it's not even Chrome specific! WHAT ON EARTH? It still happens even if the offending screen is closed so there's something with residual cached data showing up VERY faintly on black screens. So weird. -
@whoistheleader ghost - your machine has a ghost
-
@whoistheleader I've seen that on my work computer as well. Usually if there's a white window open in front of a dark one too long, there's a ghost left behind when I close that window. It looks for all the world like old CRT screen "burn-in," but that can't happen to LCDs, can it?
-
@mark-tucker It behaves like a "burn in" but I didn't think that could happen with LCD screens, as you say. No idea what causes it but it's really annoying. It's just so random too. It only is visible on the dark sections of the screen too.
-
And the padding after the rule I asked for! Thanks team. I like that my posts are looking better and I don’t have to do a thing.

Just for that I changed to dark theme.
-
@rallydarkstrike signatures made smaller is an excellent change.
-
Loving the new changes! I see the improved horizontal rule has been applied to old posts too, so the line between entries on Sunday's JRitS post is better-defined now. And I dig how signatures are nice and low-key, but still readable for those who want to read them.
-
Dark themes are great at night. Less intensity and less blue spectrum - less messing up of your circadian rhythms.
LCDs can burn in. Happens to my work computers which are on 24 hours.
-
I also see the ability to vote down a comment/post is gone (probably for the best)
-
@mm54 They took away your hobby!
-
@whoistheleader Driver update for your video card? I've seen artefacts like this caused by busted hardware acceleration of the system UI. Also check your appearance settings and set windows to be fully opaque, if you haven't already done that.

I would negative-arrow this if I could!

-
That honestly simply looks like a "cheap" LCD screen that does burn-in, OLED screens are also prone to it.
-
The signature size reduction is great! Thanks for that!
Is there a common thread or category or subforum for all these suggestions and bug reports? Is any of the source code up on github or anything like that, for crowd sourced bug fixes?
