Not surprised at all. Allowing the banks to facilitate the loans made it ripe for abuse. I applied and received one (for a legitimate company) with little effort.

I have it on good authority that a business within my approximate proximity forged payroll reports, including to the point of overpaying employees under miscellaneous pay to meet the threshold requirement for government relief, and then three of the owners bough expensive vehicles for cash after collecting. Several of those now-unemployed (again) employees are in unemployment benefit limbo because the state finds their random bump in pay during the phase 2 reopening as "suspicious."

@dogisbadob my wife works for the SBA. Between March and June she funneled millions of dollars to businesses to pay staff and to stay afloat knowing full well these funds were not being used for intended purposes but "the administration" had given it's marching orders to save the economy. Now these files are being audited and believe me when I say stories like this will get much worse.

Weird, the owner of my old company isn’t on there but his new Audi (R8? It was well over six figures) is parked in the office parking lot, from what I hear.
