I always found the story of the development of the XJ220 fascinating.
-
@exage03040 Oh? I've never heard it.
-
@essextee Wow you post porn and call us "doo doo heads" How dare you?!
-
Le Jaguar est gros chat tout doux.
-
I was going to respond in french, but what I typed out was an abomination.
The Brits have made some nice pieces of art in the past. (I'm a DB5 person myself!)
-
@baconsandwich Basically it was supposed to be a V12 AWD monster capable of 220mph. Jaguar later decided the car would be too heavy and stuck in the TTV6 from the Metro 6R4 rally car and downgraded it RWD. The price also shot up a lot. This caused a huge scandal as many people had put down deposits based on the original concept that was shown, and Jaguar had to go to court to avoid refunding people millions. Then there was a recession and the McLaren F1 happened and the press immediately forgot about the Jag.

@captdale-is-secretly-british I'm not calling anyone anything. You are calling yourself that when you choose to read my signature.

It changed enough that people that put down deposits based on the concept filed lawsuits, It never reached it's production goal, and was only the fastest production car for a short time before the McLaren F1 beat it.
-
I will say, that for a short time, it was the fastest production car in the world.
And then, you know. McLaren.
-
oh hey, if i could read, @Exage03040 already said that.
-
As much as Doug DeMuro's presentation and voice grate against my senses, he gets some really cool cars and this was one of them. Jay Leno also did a pretty decent episode on one.
-
Looking at the rear view i suspect this is one of those cars that has much mote in person presence and beauty than photos convey. Ive never liked the 220 but that rear looks pretty dope.
-
Did you initially post it because of this or did your post just gave it bad vibes?
-
@maximaspeed yup, in person they have amazing presence. They’re unbelievably low and wide and long, and all the lines are designed to emphasize that. Like the powerful horizontals across the tail, the way the side intake scoops extend right to the front bumper, and the visual mass of the wheels. A Gallardo parked next to one looks like a hot hatch. They scream “Hypercar” in a way precious little else can.
-
@essextee that very XJ220 actually got wrecked yesterday https://www.grandtournation.com/cars/top-gear-jaguar-xj220-driven-by-freddie-flintoff-crashed-in-horrific-incident/
