Semper Gumby

I just saw the following in a comment on YouTube (yes, sometimes I read the comments - shame on me):
"Semper Gumpy" - always flexible
This was the video in question:
Adam Savage (from Mythbusters fame) talks about specialization vs. generalization. It's an interesting read. And an interesting quote.
Stay flexible, Oppo. Stay flexible.

The full quote for "Jack of all trades, Master of none" actually goes:
Jack of all trades, Master of none will always be better than a Master of one. -
@baconsandwich I love Adam Savage and his youtube channel. Always a good watch and frequently learn something.
@Bloody-the-resident-shitposting-saffer Being a jack of all trades has served me well in my career so far.

@BaconSandwich Great find! I always learn something from Adam....such a talented guy with a lot of knowledge. I completely and wholeheartedly agree that having more than one skillset can be a huge boon.
As an example, I'm a substitute teacher by trade, but I also do self-taught computer repair and tech tutoring on the side. With schools being locked down for months earlier this year for COVID, I did have the Canadian CERB benefit to get me through, but I was able to do a little better because I also had that computer repair skillset to fall back on. I didn't get rich, as it;s my side job and I don't make anywhere near enough for it to be my only job, but it still helped me pay the bills more easily and live a little less worried day-to-day because I HAD that extra talent to fall back on.
@Bloody-the-resident-shitposting-saffer "Jack of all trades, Master of none will always be better than a Master of one" indeed

@rallydarkstrike How did I forget you are up here in Canada as well?
-
@BaconSandwich Eh, it's easy to, I'm out here in the middle of nowhere in Nova Scotia! I forget where you are though....? Guessing Ontario or BC....?
-
@rallydarkstrike Southern Alberta. CB is out middle of nowhere in Saskatchewan. CarsOfFortLangley is west coast.

I used to feel guilty for getting too "distracted" in my hobbies and profession. Even recently, I was feeling guilty for leaving my project car ignored for so long. That car, a near decade long dream and actively being worked on for at least 3 years now, has been on the back burner recently while I research or play with new hobbies.
But Savage's "Generalist" video a few days ago brought me back to being happy with my apparent "lack of focus". Now I don't feel so bad about trying to make my own pen using the metal lathe I recently bought. (I might post about it if the results are good...)

I did know where those two are, but weirdly not you! Now I feel guilty, haha!

@rallydarkstrike No offense taken. I generally read a lot more than post on Oppo.
