OK, that wasn't the best title ever, but here we go.
I really want a recliner in our living room that feels like sitting in this:
My wife wants something that looks like this:
I don't have an issue with the looks, but I have a hard time imagining it will be as comfortable.I'm willing to compromise to get something, but not sure where else to look for options. My wife has so far sent me links to C&B and West Elm.
A few notes - I'm 6'2" and average build, with long legs. A main reason I want a recliner is that while our sofas are nice, but sitting to watch a game or movie isn't comfortable for me without some sort of leg support due to a relatively low seating position. So part of the need with a recliner is it needs to fit taller people. We have an ottoman that is ok, but the height isn't great and doesn't provide full leg support.
I'd also like it not to cost as much as my mortgage payment.
Oppo thoughts?

Sadly not sure what to suggest, but I type this from a late 80's leather Laz-E-Boy that is comfy as....

I have a la-z-boy recliner from the late 80s or early 90s and it's dangerously comfortable (as in it's hard not to fall asleep in it).

@mm54 Crap...sorry!

I recently moved some distance, gave away my 15 year old somewhat worn out leather recliner (from Levitz, now long gone I think), and decided to treat myself to a new one, as lounging on the couch just doesn't do it for me. I am roughly your size.
I went the mortgage payment route, ordered an Ekornes Stressless chair from Dania - the one I sat in at the store was supremely comfortable, and I like the look, as over time I've become less of a fan of the overstuffed furniture look, where the stuff can be tired after just a few years. At the time they were having some kind of special on them, I think it was $500 under list. Note I say ordered - put a deposit down a month ago, and the chair is still a month out, likely due to the current unpleasantness. I think I'l be able to fall asleep in the new chair like I did in the old one - once I get it.

@houstonrunner Maybe one of them "Eur-O-pean" models might be the compromise?
-
@houstonrunner I have a big, comfy leather leather chair and ottoman (that looks nice).
-
@houstonrunner What about something along these lines?
Iβm a little bigger than you. I sat in one at a local furniture store and thought it was extremely comfortable. -
Ekornes is what you are after .
Your recliner is horrible for your back and posture - literally no support, and your wife's choice would suck for comfort. Stressless chairs on the other hand... I sold them for 7 years. Multiple sizes, multiple color options on wood and leather, super comfortable and that scandinavian concern for comfort and posture is fully met in these.
-
Your wife wants something nice to look at. You want a chair.
Buy the recliner you want and a nice painting for the wall.
-
What size of motor are you going to use to power it?
-
@houstonrunner I got no clue but it took me 9 weeks to get my sofa from Bob's discount. If you want something by Xmas I'd order soon.
-
@kiltedpadre aren't those worth more than two mortgage payments?

I'll check them out, though on first glance it looks like they are mostly in store only, and none closer than Colorado.

@musashi66 OK, I have a mission for tonight...see if these will pass the eye test.

If they do, follow Fintail's advice - they do have sales on them often, especially around holidays, so with Thanksgiving and Xmas you'll have two chances to order them. You'll want the sale - MSRP on these is pretty eye-watering.
This is how they work - stores have very limited stock in some colors. New Jersey warehouse has more stock in select colors. Rest, made to order and shipped from their factory. The salesperson should be able to give a very close approximate time for delivery on those.

If money is not an issue then you can look at Hancock and Moore. Made in America and built like a rock. This is furniture that will outlast us. I have one of their sofas and it weighs almost 400 lbs but the cushions and material are top notch. You can also get an idea of what you like and see if you can buy it from another manufacturer. I think January is when the models change for the furniture industry and also when the best sales happen because they have to sell their leftover styles.

@houstonrunner This is one of those things that you're going to have to tackle by going to the furniture store and sitting in a bunch of recliners. My in-laws bought one for me. It was nice, but it was so uncomfortable. My son seems to like it, so we put it in storage to hand down to him when he moves out. Now I don't have a recliner, but I can't say I miss that one.
-
@bicyclebuck Fair point. I'll just have to pull on the hazmat suit and hit a few stores.
-
@krustywantout Yep, you know they are pricey when they don't even show a price. There are a few stores locally that sell them, I'll have to go check them out.
-
@MUSASHI66 @fintail Well, my wife may have nixed the Stressless already. I sent her a link and she said it instantly reminded her of a chair her dad had when she was younger. Not good memories (not bad, just not good).
But that has turned me on to some other place to look, thanks!
-
@houstonrunner Check the website, they have other designs as well.
-
@just-a-scratch if you buy an actual Herman Miller chair itβd be about 4 months of my mortgage
The one I shared a picture of is a knock-off on Amazon for $650 which is about what the similar one was selling for at a local furniture store.
