Hyphen introduction
-
Like some others, I could never manage a goodbye post on kinja. So let's do an introduction post here!
Hi! I'm Cash Rewards. I chose that name because of a long story that ended with some sweet old lady calling my wife "Mrs. Rewards" because the credit card I handed her said Cash Rewards on it, and for some reason she thought it was my name, and not the credit card.
What do I do? I'm an engineer, working in federal regulation. The specific area is rather small, and being public sector, would probably create a pretty short list of co-workers, so we can leave it at that. I live in northern Virginia, and go to Katie's Cars and Coffee, at least back in the Before Time, with my wife and kids.
Up there is a picture of my Miata, which oppo (and my amazing and tolerant wife), are responsible for. When I traded a costly GTi in for a dad-mobile civic (which has since turned into a leaf), my wife promised we'd get an autocross car one day. Oppo, in particular Aesthetics in Motion, convinced me of the awesome of Miatas, and this 2001 with over 170k followed me home one day, to get an exhaust, new coilovers, sway bars, and a sparco seat added, all carefully considered to ensure I get crushed in the autocross class that puts me into.
My wife was also the driving force in the acquisition of our beater truck, a 2006 tundra with over a quarter million miles, as she was tired of projects and craigslist pickups going in her mom mobile. I fought it tooth and nail, to be honest, but love the thing and use it way more than I ever thought we would.
Throw in a leaf to commute in (maybe, someday), and pilot to haul kids in, and that's me.
Thanks to everyone who out this new place together for us. It's an amazing job.

That it a heck of an extreme car mod!
Good to see you again.

Glad ya made it!

@cash-rewards cash rewards sounds like a great fake ID name. Just tell em your parents were a fan of johnny cash
-
Welcome!

I did not know the story behind it but I've always loved your username. Very original, Mr. Rewards.
The 06 Tundra is a fantastic vehicle! But only 250k miles? That's weak. You should drive it some more. My dad's 02 TRD is barely even broken in at 300k. Those things will outlast us all if you keep them away from salt.

@mybirdistheword Cash is not the strangest name I've known someone to be named by a long shot, though his dad was a minor celebrity so I'll leave it at that. I once knew someone named 'Sir.' Yes, just 'Sir.'
-
@whoistheleader Missed opportunity. He should've had the first name of "Yes".
Maybe some variant of 'Sir' is ethnic? Like a Ser or Cer version? Sirhan Sirhan comes to mind.
-
@vincentmalamute I wouldn't think the origin was ethnic. Pretty sure his parents just wanted to call him Sir William. Guess they didn't think he could get knighted. Haha, should have made Yes his first name and Sir his second.
-
Reminds me - wasn't there a TV show where the character's first name was Doctor? oh I know, football! Like Prince Amakura. There must be a player named Doctor Smith
