Disappointed with the BRZ interior, don't think the Z proto's is much better.
-
How did they make it so cheap and blocky looking? I know passenger knee impact zones exist, but holy crap that glovebox looks bad.
The Z's interior looks like someone actually designed it, but still looks like a vertical wall to me.
I'm biased but a 5 year old Miata interior still looks better in my opinion.I'll still happy test drive both of those cars when they come out. But instead of using my consumer dollars on a new car, right now I think I'll be buying a used more expensive car.
-
None of those interiors appeal to me.
-
Except for the miata infotainment tablet. Ew
-
@poor_sh I get thats a popular opinion but looking at the BRZ interior I cant help but think Mazda made the right choice. Its a square, let it be one without ruining the rest of the interior.
-
@interstate366 I'm mostly with you, but for $30k sports cars you don't have much else to pick from.
-
Swap the head unit on the BRZ and it would be much better. Maybe wrap the plastic surround for the middle air vents too.
The Z's arm-rest area looks like 90s organic plastic blob styling. Needs a bit of dressing, otherwise I think it looks not so bad.
Miata head unit really needs to be a bit more integrated into the dash, imo
-
In the BRZ, the radio looks bad, the glove box is awful. Everything else seems fine.
For the MX-5, the way the screen is added helps to keep the rest of the dash look clean. Unfortunately, the tacked on style of screen would be a non-negotiable deal breaker for me. Unless I can remove it and still have a functioning car, it's a no-go. -
@milky if Mazda would stop with the damn tack on tablet then their interior design would be really really nice. I really hate that trend from Mercedes and it needs to die. At the very least if you are going with a non integrated dash screen do something like the old Z4 did and have it pop up when you don't want to have it.
That is a very nice and clean interior that has a screen if you want it.
-
Lol it looks like someone put an oscilloscope in the dash.
-
@jarrett Worth noting the new Mazda interiors do integrate it more. Im just complaining that I want my next to have a nicer interior and a 5 year old car shouldn't be able to keep up with those 2 new offerings.
-
@Milky I hope both of these new cars are truly great, and sell like hotcakes. The more sports car options, the more better.
Looking forward to the old BRZs depreciating more, too.
-
@milky At least there's not a Nissan badge on the wheel, at least you can pretend it's not a Nissan.
-
@tekamul I mean you said it right there, it keeps the rest of the dash clean. Theres no reason to have a tall flat dash in a small sports car, its not a F150 with 2 feet to use up.
-
@e90m3 Ha, didn't notice that, unfortunately it still has Nissan badges on the outside. Too bad they didn't pull a Mustang/Corvette and remove all corporate badging.
-
@tekamul Iām just glad that Subaru seemed to win-out over Toyota on the head-unit placement. Toyota has mostly moved to tablet like screens. The glovebox isnāt great, but at least the head-unit is possibly fixable. Subaru head-units have never been the best, but I mostly like the functionality of the STARLINK setup in my Crosstrek.
Iāve liked what others have done in the first gen BRZ by using a single DIN Alpine head-unit and a single DIN gauge pack below.
-
I am fine with all of them them. I am a simple man - I see an interior with a stick and a real handbrake in 2020 and I upvote.
-
@captdale-is-secretly-british Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think you're going to like any new car interior.
-
@milky I don't like the new car period. Hell I don't like the Z4 after they ditched the soft top for a folding hardtop.
-
@milky honestly I like the brz and the z and not the miata. Not having touched any of them obviously.
-

Yeah. I donāt like the āfloatingā or non integrated screens either. Seems half-asses to me.
-
@musashi66 I like your positivity, I should learn from you.
-
@mybirdistheword Thats fair, I like your Firebird interior more than the Focus.
-
The Mazda dashes don't look great but the placement is excellent to actually use. It's up where your eyes already are and can be controlled with the knob on the console.
-
@milky if it wasnt trashed, I would agree
some carpeting would be nice..
-
@Boxer_4 Friend has a '15 XV (whatever top trim was at the time) and my roomate last year had a '18 Impreza. The head units/screens feel like 15 years apart haha, agreed!
This interior definitely isn't my favorite (really anything posted except the Maz3), but I'll take it if it means handbrake manual RWD light sports coupe.
