I miss driving my Forester so much.
This is a 2020 Outback with all the bells and whistles. I had to turn it all off. The dealership told me it was a hybrid when they were explaining that it has stop/start. It is not a hybrid.
The exhaust note is bad.
The interior is comfy.
The car panic braked on me and scared the crap out of me. So many driver aids. These numbers seem pretty arbitrary.
I hate this screen.
If the someone were to offer to trade this outback for my Forester would I take it? Hell yeah I would it's worth multiple times what mine is! I could sell it and get a real nice 2007 Forester without TPMS.

The start/stop in my friend's '19 Forester Limited (I assume the same NA engine as the outback here) if very bothersome to me
Almost a chattering when it starts again, and lots of hesitation after the accelerator is pressed. Just seems like something that's going to wear the engine out faster. -
Driver "aids". I hate crap second-guessing me.
Just let me live or die on my own, thanks.
-
@dr-zoidberg There is no way it doesn't wear out the starter faster to have it starting the engine so many times. It's gotta be rough on the whole engine. I'm working on disabling it in Punkin Spice. Going to need to jump the switch because un-hooking it defaults it to always on.
-
@smallbear I'm honestly overwhelmed by all this flashing and beeping at me. I just want to drop down into 2nd and mash the pedal around this dirt corner.
-
@dr-zoidberg Can it be switched off with a button? It can in modern MBs (but you have to press the button every time you restart).
The earlier panic braking setups were very intrusive and seemed a little crude, late models have improved it. I don't need all the nannies, but distronic+ is nice on a sparsely populated highway or a ground to a halt suburban highway (oh, I don't deal with those anymore), and I'll take all the parking cameras you can give me, helps with my fear of curbing a wheel.
-
My grandma has one of those, you can switch off the start-stop in the menu. It's very confusing. Like how comfy it is, I like the engine is nice but the CVT is very awkward coming from a conventional automatic, I usually try to shift it manually. The driver monitoring is really weird, I wish it had normal HVAC controls. I find the screen really hard to navigate, I think it's hard to even change the radio station. If it's a Limited or Touring there's a CD player in the glovebox.
It hauls hella mulch though. Gran is gonna be too old to drive soon ( arguably she's already so ) eventually my mom or me will get it. I like my Honda better. -
Oh, press the lil car in the menu and go all the way to the right. You should see the option to turn off the stop start that way.
-
@s65 I figured out how to turn it off it just keeps coming back on when I start the car again. It's fine I only have to drive it back to the the dealership today once Punkin Spice is fixed.
I feel ya on liking your Honda better.
-
@calzonegolem I figured it would, but I haven't really messed with it and it's not my car. I'm sure there's a fuse or relay that can be pulled to turn it off but I'm sure that will make the sensors not play nice.

I had the same experience with the new Outback. It scared the shit out of me and doesn't take into consideration if there is anybody tail gating you.
-
@highlander I didn't even think I was close to the car in front of me either.
-
@calzonegolem The one time it hit me was a car that turned left in front of me about 50 feet away.
-
That's my exact reaction to most "which car would you take" scenarios. Take the most valuable one, sell it, and buy the one you like, which usually is one of the least valuable ones.
-
@s65 I'd probably prefer the Civic too TBH
-
You need to be doing something really dumb or ignorant to get the car to actually panic brake for you while going forward. Reverse Auto braking, on the other hand, now that is sensitive! I've had that kick in on my quite a few times as I park close to a bush on my driveway.
I do get the forward collision warning periodically. It's also important to know that any intervention will stop forward collision assist. It really only will stop the car if you completely ignore you're about to hit something.
