Ladies and gentlemen, an FSO Lanos!
Yes, FSO briefly produced the Lanos (and the Matiz) under their own brand. Definitely not something you see every day.
-
@borsuq well spotted!
that would be a good car but at the same time a shit car to drive. -
@pip-bip Lanoses were incredibly popular at one point. For many in Eastern Europe it was the first car that vaguely resembled something modern. Never driven one, but I imagine it's objectively way better than a Polonez.
-
@borsuq i wouldn't bet on it.
-
@pip-bip Eh, seems like a fairly safe bet to me. The Polonez is rather terrible. ;D
How's the Chery treating you btw? Somehow I wasn't aware you had a Chinese whip.
-
@borsuq the Chery is just meh. good but not great, handling is appalling
-
@pip-bip How's the quality?
I'm quite curious because you don't really ever see Chinese cars around here. If you do they're almost always on Russian or Belarusian plates.
Amusingly, Wikipedia claims that model was supposed to be produced at the old FSO plant. Didn't know about that.
-
@borsuq quality wise? the rhf door window (driver side) didn't roll down when i got it. but that was fixed with a cable tie. now the central locking doesn't unlock with the key since that was fixed, so it will just be a clip come off or some sort of obstruction
other wise, plastics are hard and brittle, seats are sort of comfy. no real trim rattles, gearbox does make a whining noise on overrun.
engine is 1.6L DVVT and is a bit underpowered. needs a few revs
nothing has fallen off or broken in the few months i've had it.
radio and gauges all work as expected.
wipers and brakes work ok
-
@pip-bip At least it's not a horror story then I guess. ;D
If wikipedia is correct than the car is surprisingly heavy. Shame, woulda thought they'd at least make it chuckable.
-
@borsuq needs power and handling to be chuckable.
-
@pip-bip Power's arguable. Chuckability through momentum is still awesome. But yeah, definitely needs handling.
-
@borsuq I would take the FSO Matiz over the Lanos. They were almost OK.
Wonder if this is an FSO that would appeal to @Stef-Schrader or @RallyDarkstrike
-
@silentbutnotreallydeadly An FSO badged Matiz is even more uncommon than a Lanos I'm afraid.
Here's one I saw in a museum:
-
@borsuq A museum is definitely not the place one would expect to find a Matiz!!
-
@silentbutnotreallydeadly You need to start going to the right kind of museums then.

It wasn't your usual museum....it was an annual display in the old FSO factory, so they have good reason to have an FSO Matiz there
-
@rallydarkstrike The exhibition is still ran by a museum though. It's just exactly the sort of museum I like. ;D

I still have to come visit it someday!

The more you know!
