Another fun commute
-
Saw multiple accidents - including someone fly off the highway at 60-70mph. It was 36 degrees this morning, but slick as hell. I was keeping it slow and steady, but others.......just stupidity on display. This is Michigan. In February. Why the hell can't people use their brains? I don't care if you total your own vehicle due to your stupidity, but what about the others you can damage or injure because you can't drive??!?!?
I saw this too many times this morning (pics are example - I was too busy driving to take actual photos)
I seriously need my dash cam installed to record and share these......
-
@trivet Wow my ride in Michigan was way worse yesterday but I start early so that helps.
-
I worked from home yesterday, so I didn't get out on the roads. I was a bit surprised how bad they were this morning, especially since it was above freezing by 5-6 degrees.
But still....come on people, it's winter in Michigan on wet (icy) roads. Use your head!
-
@trivet Truth.
-
@trivet Well at least you didn't get shot at.
"3 dead after shooting on I-96 in Detroit: What we know" https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2021/02/23/3-dead-after-shooting-on-i-96-in-detroit-what-we-know/
This is getting a little too common around here.

@trivet
Texas: We couldn't do worse at this freezing winter thing.Michigan (sees that it's thawing): Hold my beer.
(That's what I'm gleaning from this)

You are wise beyond your years sir.

Just like at the track, the most dangerous time is when 90% of the surface is clear and dry...

SOOO true.
But this morning was closer to 90% ice and slush, so there was no excuse for the stupidity.
-
Crazy - you'd think people up there would know better.
-
These pics reminded me of a general observation in many years of traveling upper midwest highways.
With 4WD you don't get stuck less, you get stuck better.
Along the highways, the bald tire sedans usually end up along side of the roadway after spins or slides. The SUV's and Trucks end up over the guard rail or down a hill along the fence. -

I want this as a bumper sticker on my next Jeep.

@davesaddiction Yes, I guess I am getting to be a hand wringing old geezer, but seeing a big chunk drivers flying around at their usual 10-15 over when MOST of the roads are dry makes me a little crazy. Patch of ice and you are in the ditch or somebody's back end. Have to admit it is probably mostly an age thing, drove that way when I was young and indestructible too.
