I went for a nice little hike with my son today to a place called Lost Creek falls. It’s was pretty great.
The 20 foot tall wall of ice that the falls become in the winter is pretty’s neat. AE7CF7B3-0E08-479C-A95E-83E2249F9C74.jpeg 93D83B0D-94C7-489D-BBF9-35DBFF7D655E.jpeg E9475272-DBE9-4B95-82D1-583D498C8BF3.jpeg
Unfortunately on the way home a deer went full Kamakazi on Fiona. It was one of those where it popped out of the ditch and I had just enough time to move over a few feet. I don’t even know if my foot moved to the break pedal before I hit it.
At least I was able to swerve enough to save the windshield. The car is banged up tho. Bumper, a headlight, the fender are all junk. Fog light is smashed in, and side marker lights are gone. One grill shattered into about 6 pieces, and a bit of the hood is smashed. It even managed to put 3-4 dents in the passenger front door. 06C7324E-4B10-4802-81C6-15AD63136660.jpeg 23E07640-A60D-4EAB-B757-7D2D7731CDDF.jpeg 91720316-DFDD-46AF-B4A1-FC918EB3F6AB.jpeg E14AEDB4-C624-42FC-B28E-03A875317F40.jpeg 7EBD6F6C-4B89-4DCF-B13E-C609B25051B9.jpeg

@hfv Oh no! It happens so quickly it's hard to have time to react. At the very least the most commonly replaced parts were the ones that were damaged and there doesn't appear to be any damage to the windshield or pillars that would balloon repair costs. Sucks big time for you and the deer.

@hfv I'm surprised it actually died from that, I've hit three of the things over the years, and always had to shoot them afterward.

Oh, that sucks man....at least the car isn't super damaged and is driveable! Sad for the deer, but you did what you could and they come out of nowhere... 😞

@rallydarkstrike The funny thing is I had been driving a bit recklessly earlier, but when it happened I was doing 50 on a straight 45mph road.

                    It's fur fascia Monday.

Fortunately nothing mechanical broke or bent and the airbags did not deploy.

@jb-boin I’m so glad the air bags didn’t blow. That usually a totaled car. And I like this car I don’t want to totally it out.

@hfv venison as compensation? Or is the consumption of roadkill not allowed?

@silentbutnotreallydeadly it was an option but then you have to deal with the DNR. Plus I wouldn’t have anywhere to put it.

@hfv Looks like you got off pretty good for a deer strike. Better than the deer for sure! Too bad you couldn't keep the meat but so it goes. Glad no humans were hurt!

Having lived in Michigan my entire life - hitting a deer is almost a right of passage.

My theory is on average, every Michigan driver has hit a deer. Some have hit 2, 3, or more, making up for those that haven't hit any.

I have personally hit 1 deer, so I am at average for a Michigan driver.

That only shows reported claims - there are many unreported vehicle/deer collisions. Semi trucks don't even slow down when they liquify a deer at 70mph, let alone report it.
