Welcome to This or That; Where I choose 2 vehicles (but probably can't afford) and you choose which one you'd rather have with the poll.
You can explain your choice below, or not.

Last time we had a battle of $8k 4x4 Pick-ups. The Ranger edged out the Silverado 34 to 29. MM54 said his Co-Worker was more taken with the Silverado. Good luck on your future search!

TexturedSoyProtein had a post about PMY cars the other day. I have found a couple of American Convertibles for $35k CAD to brighten up your Monday.

First up is a Triple Yellow 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Convertible. It has the EcoBoost 2.3L I-4 Turbocharged Engine with 310bhp and the 10-Speed Automatic Transmission. It has a Basalt Black Interior with heated and ventilated front leather seats and Ford Sync 3 pairing system.

Perhaps you want something a little more special?

It’s up against a Sunfire Yellow 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Collectors Edition Convertible. It has the WS6 performance package with the LS1 5.7L V8 engine with 325bhp and the 6-Speed Manual Transmission. This is one special ‘bird Oppo with only 2000 made and about 1/4 of which Convertibles. This one has the sun visor signed by the late George Barris.

@exage03040 Does a car become a collector car just because the manufacturer calls it a "Collector's Edition"? 😛

Any other history of car makers being this (inaccurately?) ballsy on the collectability of their vehicles?

          Neither.

          I'd rather walk.

@exage03040 Mustang for me. That yellow is a bit much for me, but everything about the Trans Am is a bit much.

@exage03040 the Mustang is probably a much better car. The Trans am however, is undoubtedly the much cooler car. and probably more fun. Trans am for me. Its not yellow its (fire)chicken!

I just drove one of these exact mustangs but in silver as a rental and it was great. I also can't stand the styling of those firebirds, so I'm voting for the moose tang every time.

@exage03040 One of them is a new vehicle worth the asking price. The other is a car I didn't grow up with any nostalgia for that has a very arbitrary rarity only designed to look good on a plaque as 1 of 200 without being very different from any of the thousands out there for much cheaper.

I love yellow, but... Not on these. What seems so interesting on everything else just feels tacky on a Mustang, or other American cars of the same genre

This was a tough choice for me. The Pontiac will definitely sound nicer and does have some chance of being collectable.
But on the other hand, if I were to drive it, it would kill the value as it wouldn’t be low mileage anymore.
And I know the Pontiac have some maintenance items that are difficult... like the spark plug change for the rear-most cylinders.

So I’m gonna go with the Mustang. Newer, most likely easier to live with, similarly as fast, most likely more reliable.

@stuckmtb It just looks sooo bad - all those holes, what were they thinking? And the interior is somehow even worse. Did it get melted in an oven before it left the factory?

@exage03040 that's a tough one... I don't think I'd spend my money on either but if someone was to gift me one I'd probably go with the mustang. That latest gen of mustangs are handsome cars!

Firebird all the way, although that is a lot of scratch for an F-body. Personally I'd rather go with an example with more mileage since I'd want to drive it.

I wanna say Firebird, but it's hard with the nostrils, even if the price wasn't so crazy.

@exage03040 I’m sure that Pontiac can be made into a great car. That mustang is an automatic 4 banger mustang.

If I was a less shouty color I’d pick it just because, being automatic, I could share it with my wife. But she’d never drive a bright yellow car.
Also for me I’m looking at these as second cars not Daily drivers. The mustang would be a much better daily.

@exage03040 wow, tough one but Firebird. I can't see a modern convertible pony car without thinking of every textbook "tourist" all at once.

If you forced either one of these on me, I'd be rid of the the second you turned your back, haha.

The Firebird will have a worse interior, worse to insure, worse to fill up and worse to live with.

But you can't say no to a V8, manual with the top down.

@exage03040 I may be a bit biased, even still I like the low end torque. If it was a gt mustang convertible it would be alot harder. Been my main complaint with turbo engines is the driveability is much worse. Frustrating even.

@rctothefuture yeah, I haven't adored either my mini's 1.6t or my focus's 2.0t. Just bogs at low rpm, very difficult to launch without either roasting the tires or the aforementioned bogging down. I know alot is personal taste, but every time an auto journalist obsesses over engine rpm I cringe. My 6.6 olds makes 420 lb/ft at 2500 rpm and I have the dyno sheets to prove it. I hate a turbo engine's hesitation.
