Oppos who know bodywork- how would I fix this?
-
An artifact of Ohio’s front plate, mercifully without zip screws, is a few depressions in this bumper. How would I go about removing them without actually doing real bodywork? Heat gun and prayer? The cover is resprayed, but I’d still like to avoid cracks, or worse, paying someone to fix this. Thoughts?
Quite the shadow. Hopefully it cleans up.

@Qaaaaa I removed some bumps like that with a heat gun from the rear end of our Outback, you gotta go slow and heat it up slowly to prevent burning the paint or melting the plastic. I used a wooden handle behind the bumper to push the bump out, it took about 10 minutes.

"heat" "gun"

@Highlander with it on the car? Doesn’t sound too bad, I have a heat gun at the shop
-
@Qaaaaa unmounting would help with access so you can heat it from the back and minimize risk to the paint itself.
-
@Qaaaaa Gentle heat from a heat gun (keep it moving to not overdo one spot) and pushing it from the back side. May not get it all out but it should help.

Wouldn’t that be a H.E.A.T gun?

@ClassicDatsunDebate shhh

@Qaaaaa I’ve had success in the past with heat-less brute persuasion.
If you can actually insert a small jack thingy behind the cover that pushes against a frame member, even better. Slow and steady.
-
@Qaaaaa Given that it's spent some time flexed like that, heat may not be enough. You may have to heat it, flex it back into its proper shape, and brace it from behind with something to keep it from relaxing back into that deformed position. And maybe keep the brace there for a few weeks as the material gets reacquainted with its true shape.

@Qaaaaa try hot water and punching it
