Bait and Switch, but in a good way.

I guess it's bad if you're looking for a 4Runner, but check it out, JDM HighAce!
-
@BicycleBuck Those looking for a 4Runner originally should change their perspective... think of all the practicality the HighAce has to offer!
-
@BicycleBuck Likely had to list it that way as the HiAce isn't an available option.
There's plenty of 1960-1980s Plymouths listed as Acclaims because marketplace doesn't have the correct model listing available.
-
@BicycleBuck Too bad it's got the automatic sucking the life out of it.

@CoolMinivan-Nobody said in Bait and Switch, but in a good way.:

This.

@BicycleBuck — They're not that big, and driving (or taking advantage of the sliding door) on the "wrong" side for the US would take me a lot of getting used to, but as an aesthetic object that might be Peak Minivan.

Actually, based on my experience with this sort of thing, you'd be wrong. The auto in this is well matched to the diesel engine and tends to keep the thing moving quite well by keeping it on or near boost. -
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly I've never driven any automatic that managed to be in the gear I wanted it in. My opinion is that small motors don't have any power to waste on automatic shifting.
Whether or not this one keeping the motor on boost is optimal, I don't know. I do know that it wouldn't be in the gear I wanted, when I wanted it. -
@drVanTraveler
Oh I agree it's a rare thing to get the right gear (I struggle with it whenever I drive an auto) but, in this particular case, it did/does work. That 3.0 litre diesel was the big engine too and wildly understressed in this application.
