I had to renew my license so I booked an appointment with the Iowa DOT a few weeks back. Well, it was today. It was a pretty easy experience I just went in at my appointment and came out quickly. During that appointment I also registered for the selective service and registered to vote. I choose not to register with any party because I don't want any parties sending me more shit in the mail then they otherwise would.

      I also saw a black 944 S.

I'm a 18 year old college freshman from Iowa, majoring in chem.

You are now a swing voter. You will receive twice as much mail.

Can't think of a political ad I'd want to display as origami

I was that way for decades, then one day I just realized that one party has won all statewide elections for about the past 30 years, so it seemed like a good idea to be able to vote in their primary, as that's become the defacto general election

@Fish-McSticks Blows my mind that people in other states have to set appointments at the BMV. Ohio does some dumb things, like having a split BMV and title bureau, but I've never had to set an appointment at either and it's never been more than like, 20 minutes wait

Also yeah you're going to get twice the mail now. I think Iowa has closed primaries, so you can't vote in them unless you're a party member, so now both parties will ask you to vote in their primary

Wow, crazy to hear. The wild thing to me is the people who go to the DMV WITHOUT an appointment in all the states I've lived in and had to visit them (CA, OR, MA) and just seeing how long the backlog is. I either make an appointment (preferably one of the first of the day) or show up 30 mins before they open. Otherwise you better have nothing planned for the rest of the day.

                          registered to vote.

Washington State allows teenagers to pre-register. My son's high school distributed forms to the 17-year-old students. Those that filled it out and sent it in had their voter registration processed on their 18th birthday. Although he is now at college, his home address hasn't changed. Washington does all voting by mail, so I have to send his ballot to him when it arrives. So far, I haven't seen any political mail directed to him. However, I don't know if he gets any mailed directly to his college address.

@Fish-McSticks Does your state also give you the option to sign up as an organ donor with your license?

@ZHP-Sparky-the-5th It also takes like 15 minutes, tops, to vote here, unless you live in one of a half dozen or so precincts

@Fish-McSticks Soon, you will start receiving bills and other solicitations for money. This will continue until your death.
