What do you do if you have no room for a subwoofer but want more bass? This.

@derp Counterpoint, start with a 7 passenger vehicle
This is what my neighbor has been working on in his spare time this summer on his spare vehicle. Two 19s and two 12s, plus component speakers in the doors. Now that his wife's car is down this has to get done so she has something to drive. Thanks for posting a reason for me to share this ridiculousness.

@derp Nice! They add a surprising amount. I went with the Kicker 10 inch 160 watt unit and I'm very impressed with the power.
I put mine on a bracket I found on the forums to hide into the factory location.
This is the old CV that died.

@derp I was looking at self contained amp/subwoofers for the Miata. Wondering if I could find one slim enough to fit under the seat. There are some really compact 8" options, but theres not a much for space under there.
I think I'll just try to find a good set of the original Bose door speakers which are a woofer/mid built into one unit.
woofer underneath
mid on top -
@Green-Truck Thats some WMDs Woofers of Mind Destruction.
Cant hear shit and everything you see is vibrating.

Meghan Traitor holding on line 3....

@derp That's basically exactly where the factory subwoofer is on the E350 wagon:

@derp Do what BMW does and put them under the seats

Nicely done. I have been eyeing the void in the center of my underfloor tool tray and wondering if this was an option.

Updated og post with cleanup pictures

@derp that floorboard is gonna be all about that bass.
-
@chan it actually doesn't rattle at all. I thoroughly tested it at...unadvised volumes. Wife was outside the vehicle, no vibration/rattles outside either.
Really happy with how it turned out.

Reminds me of the huge 90s trend of powered subs that would curl up inside the spare tire spot (assuming you got rid of the spare, but who on earth would ever drive a car without a spa.....never mind). They were custom fiberglass builds and a few hundred bucks before the amp. Big money at $5/hr.*
Or the ones that were custom made to fit up against the cubby holes in the side of most trunks. You might barely get 1 cubic foot and a 6"-8" driver, but it was better than nothing. And that's exactly where most OE subs are mounted today
*Not saying everyone earned $5/hr, but the people who really really loved car audio mostly did!

Very nice. My GTI has the factory box inside the spare tire. Maybe 6β so not very big but it definitely helps fill out the low end.
-
@derp Awesome! Remember to put you in-line fuse close to the battery!
-
@JunkleMKVII My A4 sub is exactly the same but it's under the wheel.
-
I just posted a Ford Focus Sony Side Sub in Swappo if someone could use it.

The in-line is tucked up in the passenger footwell behind the kick panel, there's maybe 18 inches (probably more like 12 if not less) of cable from battery to in-line fuse, then the rest of the cable runs to the back of the car. It's just up the firewall a few inches, through the grommet, then under and to the side of the battery up to the positive terminal.

JBL makes both a powered and a stand-alone subwoofer that are designed to go in a spare tire well, given the wheel is mounted face down. I thought about that as an option, but ultimately decided this was way more convenient.
