Holy crap this picture

Based on how much he changed the actual photo, I think "photo illustration" is the right term for several of these.
This guy has done so much post-processing that many of these look like renders, even though they're not.
I think it's the wrong choice, creatively, even though they're incredibly striking.
Your thoughts, @Photography?

@HammerheadFistpunch Saw the video of him going into space a while ago, didn't realize he took ground photos as well, holy shit that look straight out of a videogame
-
@davesaddiction yeah why bother getting a real photograph just to make it look like an AI could have made it up
also Tag Monaco is good #watchlopnik -
@davesaddiction yeah, it's a photo-based-illustration. An art form in its own right but calling it photography is disingenuous.
-
@EssExTee @davesaddiction Truth. It's extremely edited, but what an effect.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch
All his stuff looks like any other AI enhanced or generated image to me. -
@HammerheadFistpunch @EssExTee
The "truth" of the moment is cool enough, in my eyes.
Adding darkness and rain just takes away from that truth.
He could've used B&W and contrast for effect, if needed.
Some things are impressive enough on their own, and don't need exaggeration.

@davesaddiction oh wow, THAT is the original?!

Yeah, I was going to go with "painting." Certainly doesn't take anything away from the dramatic impact of the work.
-
That's the moment the photo was taken, yes.
-
@davesaddiction Right, I didn't mean to infer I thought that photo angle was the original.

@ttyymmnn said in Holy crap this picture:
dramatic impact
I guess I disagree with that.
The image itself is very dramatic and does have an immediate, visceral impact, but that impact is immediately diminished some when you get the sense it's heavily manipulated, and then diminished much more when you learn of the actual conditions during the shoot itself.
-
@davesaddiction They keep saying its the worlds first, I guess with a real photographer and equipment but I've seen good videos and even James May go up in one with some great video.

This is now NFS: U2… (previously Underground 2)

MOPAR, No car, etc., etc.,

@davesaddiction It's art. There is no right or wrong. Clearly the artist had an idea and executed it. There sure are a lot of armchair outerspace photographers on this site.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch This is cool and all... but why is there not a photoshopped F 35 in someone's backyard taunting US Govt regarding their missing jet?
-
@Throwaway I took a photo of my armchair in outerspace just recently. What of it?
-
If you think the personal thoughts I have about these images are invalid, that's perfectly fine with me. Opinions are like assholes, amirite?
It is a beautiful, striking image, no question, and I can respect the art of it.
I just think the aggressive post-processing here actually takes something away from the original photos.
