New MR2 *and* Miata coming?
-
@Turbineguy-Nom-de-Zoom I came here to say "CUV?" but with a 150hp engine, even if it ends up being a "CUV" it'll actually have to be a smol boi and I think that is OK.

200hp/200lb-ft
A Miata with only a slight weight gain with that power would be amazing.
But batteries are hella heavy.
-
@davesaddiction Yeah. I can't imagine Mazda would put anything but a small battery in a Miata because of its weight. I've read it referred to as a mild-hybrid so that may be a clue. The starter will pull double duty as a generator.
-
Apparently a 48V lithium battery doesn't weigh that much at all.
Adding lots of complexity, though.

Imho 200hp/200lb-ft would be perfect for either.
Truly groundbreaking
THIS JUST IN FROM 1991
MR2 Turbo with a turbocharged 2.0L 3S-GTE engine producing 200 bhp (203 PS; 149 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 200 lb⋅ft (271 N⋅m) at 3,200 rpm of torque, offered only with a 5-speed M/T -
@Turbineguy-Nom-de-Zoom it'd be just big enough to start the car from a stop before the ICE kicks in. Doesn't sound like much, but that's most fuel-consuming moment for a gasoline engine so the savings will add up over time.
-
Put a Rotax in an MR2 you cowards!

Oh, so it'll have a special starter belt on the accessory drive side, you know, like a Saturn Vue

I actually have its' final generation in my MR2
It lasted a hot minute, 21 years. The USDM MR2 Turbo only came with the second option there
-
@theturbomrt 86mm x 86mm
The AZ-1's new engine is 68x60 which is.....very different from that.
-
@Taylor-Martin I mean...liter sport bikes have been making 150 HP for like 20 years now
-
@Peter_Black I won't lie, I forget motorbikes even exist. My brain thinks in relation to four-wheeled things only. Three-wheeled things sometimes as well.

Dig out the FA20! (Don't actually do this)
-
@Peter_Black Yeah but not much torque which doesn't work in a 2000lb+ car.
-
@Turbineguy-Nom-de-Zoom ah yes, because the 1L, 150 HP mill they will be putting in it NOW will have OODLES of torque!
-
@Peter_Black If it's anything like the Toyobaru twins engine then yeah, kinda lame.
