Just like the hood, the fenders are also aluminum….and I forgot that they can also have the problematic bubbling issues as well. Well, looky what I found on my fender this weekend……
On one hand, the car has almost 90k on the odometer and has made it this far. On the other hand, this is sixth corrosion/bubbling issue I’ve dealt with across two Mustangs now. Three hood issues on the first, and two hood issues and now the fender on this one. Maybe I’ll end up replacing this thing far sooner than I imagined.
I wonder how the S650s will do for aluminum quality. The fenders were changed back to steel for the newest generation, but the hood is still aluminum

So frustrating...
-
@K-Roll-PorscheTamer Meanwhile 30 year old Miatas with aluminum hoods.
-
@HFV_Junkyardin More like this, but faded paint is certainly better than bubbling.
-
@davesaddiction this is my sign and excuse to get something else. Something more practical and economic. And quite probably not another Ford.
-
@HFV_Junkyardin I’m convinced Ford just can’t aluminum at this point.
-
@K-Roll-PorscheTamer That's bad and all, but LOOK AT THAT HOOD GAP. Who does Ford think they are, Tesla?
-
@K-Roll-PorscheTamer I understand why you're frustrated, nice cars should stay nice, but after dealing with Fargo this long, rust the term "rusty" feels more subjective
-
@Bandit they might be the original Tesla, with their quality standards….
-
@K-Roll-PorscheTamer Considering how many painted parts on their cars are aluminum, this is just weird. Why can't they get it right after years of trying?
I wonder if this means that most of the F-series from the last decade will be driving around with crappy, bubbly paint. They only sell like close to a mil per year, no biggie!

I wouldn't expect improvement. With the paint rules dictating crappy paint on most new cars in the US I don't expect Ford (or any others) to fine tune quality. Even perfect metal with crap paint is going to have trouble.
Besides, Michigan..
Not exactly a good driving environment -

Careful what you ask for from Ford. They tried course correcting with their Lincoln products and the hood on my mom's Corsair is too flush with the fender on one side and actually nicks it.

@K-Roll-PorscheTamer it'll be fine, it's not structural
