Have you ever forgotten where you parked your car?

The DoD wants help figuring out where their F-35 landed.
An F-35B pilot ejected from their aircraft today around 2:00 PM local time in an area north of Joint-Base Charleston. The pilot landed under a parachute in a Charleston neighborhood and is in stable condition, but the advanced stealth fighter they ejected from is nowhere to be found.

@Just-Jeepin Malaysian Airlines know the feeling.

@Just-Jeepin Lockheed is going to make so much money on their new onstar subscription system.

@Just-Jeepin The comments on the drive article are excellent.
-
Well, at least we know the stealth tech works.

Very very very glad the pilot is safe, feels very real after attending the reno air races yesterday and seeing a couple pilots not be so lucky. But how does one build a plane so stealthy it doesn’t even leave a trace when it crashes?
-
@Just-Jeepin I haven't forgotten where I parked my car but one time it was not where I parked it which was confusing. And I know this for a fact because I parked under a specific sign, took a picture of my car parked under that sign, and when I got back it was a full sign over (this was at an airport park and ride lot). No idea how it got there, wasn't broken into or anything....but it was full section removed.
I wanted to find an explanation for this but arriving home after midnight from a 5 day vegas trip (work conference so I was up early and back very late every day) meant I just needed to be home. And what was a lot attendant going to tell me besides that I'm crazy?
I never did find out why my car was in a different place than I left it.
But at least my car isn't an F35....and I found it

@Zaphod-s-Heart-of-Gold Weird

@Zaphod-s-Heart-of-Gold signs switched around?
-
@pip-bip Signs seemed to be in the correct places as where I left them but, again, it was late and rather dark and I was tired and confused about my car being in the wrong spot. I'll go with this explanation though as it does not involve my car being moved. Although I'm pretty sure it was actually in a different spot.
IDK this was 4 years ago now and I don't have that car anymore so I should probably stop thinking about it.

Have you ever forgotten where you parked your car?
Fairly often in my 20s. My friend had a Honda Ruckus that he'd leave in a strategic spot (usually near a train station) By Sunday, cars and people would be all over the place so at least one person would be able to get to the scoot to start reconnaissance. You can ride 3 up on a ruckus if you're brave.
-
@Just-Jeepin because it's too stealthy
-
@Just-Jeepin sigh....
we can't fly em.
we can't track em.
we don't know where we crashed em.
What can we? -
Just Jeepin'
-
@Just-Jeepin It probably landed in a tow-away zone. Check the impound

@Just-Jeepin
If it hit water it'll be easy to find (because it will be in little oily pieces). But if it nailed soft, swampy ground like the dart it is...if could be hard to find. -
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly you just need a Yoda

@Dr_Watson
Find it first he must. -
Can you imagine sitting in the living room on a Sunday afternoon and ...
"The pilot, after ejecting, was found in a residential neighborhood near South Kenwood Drive in North Charleston ..."
-
@john-norris no kidding. Dude shows up at your door in a full pilot suit with blown shoot and asks to use the phone.
-
@Just-Jeepin —Maybe they should look near Tybee Island.
(Ah, the "good" old days — why go to the trouble and expense of developing ballistically equivalent inert weapons shapes when you can make your practice bombing runs on American cities with a live thermonuclear warshot?).
-
@Just-Jeepin my parents live on one of the lakes that they are searching. Bout to get ole pops on the pontoon with the sidescan. But wait… stealth.
-
@Dr_Watson assuming it wasn't one of those Day the Fish Came Out situations
(Be happy if you don't get the reference, not worth a Bing, what a terrible, terrible movie)
-
@save_the_milanos Did I find it?
f-35 on static display at the Reno Air Races yesterday. Pretty sure they didn't do any flight demos, but they definitely brought 2 to sit around and look nice.

The jet’s transponder, which usually helps locate the aircraft, was not working “for some reason that we haven’t yet determined,” said Jeremy Huggins
I bet that was a fun thing to admit. Seriously, whiskey tango foxtrot?!

@Tripper — A science museum of my acquaintance marks its various parking areas with signs depicting various dinosaurs, and lettering that urges people to remember their dinosaur. If the adults don't remember, their kids certainly will!
