What are your favorite "aboreable" cars?
-
Dodge Neon says, Hi.
-
-
That Elantra is an honest little car. The GT’s looked nice. They hark from an era of Hyundai and Kia still finding themselves so reliability and quality were a mixed bag but still decent and the price is hard to argue.
Mk1 Focus Wagon is neat! Shame they didn’t get SVT’d like the hot hatch.
Caio!

@awesomeaustinv the first generation Focus was a brilliant design, shame they cocked it up afterwards, at least in North America.
I'd put the Mk1 Ka and the Twingo in the same category, likely future classics
Unfortunate the mk1 focus was so full of problems it spent a lot of time behind tow trucks. I had a 2000 zx3 in college and it was never ending recalls.

@Old-Busted-Hotness Nature always finds a way...
-
@KAC Yes that absolutely counts, the Mazda 121 is very cute.
-
@Palem Dodge Neon is textbook aboreable, not that I'm writing a textbook.
-
@orneryduck I'd argue the 500 has way too much effort put into its styling to be considered boring, but it's certainly cute. That Mirage however definitely counts as aboreable!
-
@awesomeaustinv Had a thing for chevettes, which have now transubstantiated from shitbox to antique curiosity.
-
@awesomeaustinv I owned an 01 accent hatch. It had a 2.0 tibby swap and was sitting on k sport coilovers. It was one of the most fun cars I’ve owned and held up beautifully.

Here is a car that has been "abored":

@MisterButtercup these truly do fit the mark and the love they deserve - we need more posts like this (I also need to get back on the hyphen more)

edit: now for one that's probably expensive if you can find it, but it could also be dirt cheap because the owner doesn't know what they have. it's unlikely that you'll find one either way. presenting, the volkswagen typ 147 "fridolin":

@RallyDarkstrike Since I noticed you came online again, I wanted to make sure you saw this post

@awesomeaustinv For me it's the Daewoo-derived Pontiac Le Mans. Only the 3-door AeroCoupe version though.
Mercury Tracers also hold a soft spot in my heart:
-
@BurntClutches I have a soft spot for economy cars where the rear wheel well blends into the seam between the quarter panel and the rear bumper. See also, Opel Kadett:
-
@awesomeaustinv So the LeMans is actually an Opel Kadett, licensed to be built by Daewoo in S. Korea, then sent to the USA to be badged as a Pontiac.
-
@BurntClutches Well no wonder it reminded me of that then, lol. Quite the circle of badge engineering.
-
@Sam-Blockhan Thanks mate! I was very busy for several months!

Well, if you're talking performance, the classic FIAT 500, and the FIAT 126p were 'everyday cars' in their time, but are pretty boring in performance terms...that being said, their size can make them feel FAR more exciting than that performance suggests, haha!
I always quite liked the look of my generation of Hyundai Accent. It's a pretty boring car, but I always thought the styling was pretty decent and approachable. Nothing groundbreaking or terrible...just good old 'not bad' - you can tell the designers tried at least a bit (I've always liked the swage line that runs from the front side repeater in the front fender all the way back through the doors and into the middle 'divider' of the rear lights)
-
@RallyDarkstrike I meant boring more as a general blandness than just underwhelming performance, but all those cars certainly fit the description of being boring yet adorable. The Fiats are maybe a bit of a stretch since most would consider them interesting and unusual now, but they were quite ordinary and plain when new, yet still cute.
