My 6 is officially getting Apple CarPlay.
-
This Friday at 8:00 A.M. I had some extra money and the part was available on Amazon for cheaper than the dealer could get it. The part is literally just an upgraded USB port for the center console. Aside from that, all that is needed is a software update.
The dealer is doing the install for me while I wait.
With the addition of this, my mod list is as follows:
- AVS window vent visors
- Tinted windows
- Chrome mirror trim
- Remote start
- Heated seats
- Trailer hitch/bike rack
- Rear Spoiler
- Mazda valve stem caps (lol)
- OEM Navigation integration
- Husky Liners floor mats
- OEM Mazda trunk liner
- OEM Mazda rear bumper guard
- Apple CarPlay
-
When does it get a name?
-
@chariotoflove The 6? Her name is Sylvia. The Highlander is the one that has remained nameless.

Why deal with integrating factory nav if you will have carplay?
-
@mazda616 I like it!
-
@bylan-hoarder-of-ls400-s I did that two years ago, before Mazda made CarPlay available. It was just a matter of buying an SD card on Amazon and inserting it.
-
@chariotoflove Thanks! It’s named after my favorite ‘80s country one-hit wonder.

Hey, I am thinking about doing this for my son's Mazda3 for Christmas. I have seen the part on Amazon, but am concerned about the software update. I am not sure what I am asking, but if you have any advice, I would appreciate it.
-
@mazda616 ah ok, when I read the mod list I didn't realize it was basically in order you've done the mods. It's awesome that oem nav just needed the sd card

The same was true with my 2015 Sedona. Didn't need a visit to the dealer. Just dl'd the update from the net and plugged the card into the dash! -
@993-5150 There are several underground sites that have the software on them and you can try to update the radio yourself, but I am not brave enough as one error will render the radio bricked forever. I am just choosing to have the dealer do it.
