Zombie Kinja Oppo still publishing scheduled posts... Hey ttyymmnn do you need us to pull your Aviation posts?
-
Looks like scheduled posts are still going live behind the curtain.
-
@fttohg
Was wondering if that was going to post or not. I made a scheduled post because I didn't think it was going to be completely killed, just read only and scheduled posts would still work. -
@fttohg LOL - that's me at 11:59pm yesterday with the link here.
Long live OPPO!
-
@fttohg Is this accessible/searchable or only to "owners"?
-
christ, they can't even kill a blog on their site properly. Is Herb running this stuff himself?
-
A lot of folks were speculating this might happen if they scheduled. This makes me giggle.
-
@fttohg Interesting. How did you get to that?
I have painstakingly saved text and pictures from three years worth of posts, so I think I'm good. That's what I used to make today's TDIAH post.
Thanks so much for asking.
-
@chariotoflove Shouting into the void.
-
@fttohg I had TDIAH posts queued into the second week of December.
-
@ttyymmnn @CarsOfFortLangley It is accessible as far as I can tell to anyone who had posting rights, but a little complicated to get to work. You need to get an address to the feed with a "token" that seems to expire every two hours or so. The catch is you can only get the token from a link where your personal blog used to be. Then you need to change your name in the url to oppositelock and it spits out the latest from zombie Oppo.
-
@fttohg It turns out the images are still there too. I found an online RSS reader called Feedly that is able to retrieve the first image and paragraph, but nothing more. The images are still on Kinja urls.
-
Stef still has tabs open - I got a notification that she starred one of my replies this afternoon!
-
@fttohg Thanks, but you're using words that make no sense to me. I'm satisfied that I've got all I need, and thrilled that my voice continues into the ether.
-
@essextee wow feedly is still around! I used it back in 2010 or so but stopped when one of my favorite blogs discontinued their RSS feed. Those of us trying to archive right now are finding the Kinja images all pretty much still there. Even the FP uses the same Kinja image host so the images might all be live for a while. Right now I'm scraping all of the text from the posts which have the image URLs in them and I'm hoping I can then parse that to save some images... but I don't think I have space to save everything.
-
@davesaddiction I still had a bunch of tabs open but Chrome decided to refresh them and they all 404'd
Hmm... I wonder if there is some way to dig into the code that makes the star work and create an html file with a link that will star these zombie posts.
-
I'm pretty sure all they did was remove the DNS entry because I'm guessing all the kinja blogs use the same S3 buckets as the main sites so deleting everything could be tricky.
-
Hahahahahahahahahaha. That's wonderful.
-
@ttyymmnn ttyymmnn can never die! Long live ttyymmnn!
