Next Gen Miata
-
Ok, there's a slight possibility that by 2023 (the expected next Miata model year) I will be looking for a new daily. My NB will be fully track prepped, my Cayman will be paid off and might become a weekend cruiser. I might have a tow vehicle by then for the NB? Though the tow vehicle and other stuff may remove my budget for a daily and I'll daily the tow vehicle (plz no no no no no). Point is, I'm actually not so much a fan of the ND and potentially the next gen will have more power weight and a manual but be named not the NE because THEY NAMED THE FIATA THE NE AND NF!!!!
(Rendering taken from forcegt.com)HOWEVER, I've been reading miata.net speculation and they seem to think it'll be Hybrid or Electric and, just, please Mazda.... don't. I know regulations, and demographics, an business etc but shut up and don't do that. Granted, I'm not a fan of all the new safety tech but maybe if they stick to their script the base model won't have too much?
What do you guys think?

WAT
The next Miata will be the NG?
No good...
-
I'm more excited by the upcoming BRZFRS86
-
-
The Miata has a lot to lose by changing the formula.
I predict that it they'll price themselves too high globally and see a massive slow-down in sales in their misguided attempt to chase the 'premium market'. They've already done it here; I almost never see ND Miatas on the street; I think only 1 this year.

I would be, I love the BRZ, but it's sorta like a combo of a Cayman and Miata lol I have both! Honestly I want one but I've been permanently spoiled by top-down driving.
-
@poor_sh I think it's too soon to speculate too hard, and I wouldn't worry about it looking anything like the magazine rendering
-
@poor_sh yeah, having a cayman makes a brz a less-attractive option, i can see that.
i, however, do NOT have a cayman
-
@phenotyp oh I'm not worried about the look yet I just like having at least 1 topical picture in my threads.
I don't think it's too soon to speculate though as they'll likely introduce it in 2022 and therefore there may be leaks next year.

There's a simple surefire way to rectify that!

I'd bet the next gen is just a heavy refresh of the ND. And that aint no bad thing.
The NA turned into the NB, the NC could share some costs with the RX8. But the ND is all by itself. -
Shit, like Mazda has money for a new Miata
-
@jarrett our 2019 RF was priced competitively, and we got every damned option you can think of. Maybe because we have a current Miata, but we see lots of them around the Seattle area.
-
@milky my thoughts too but I was hoping for a power increase too so they negate the weight increase a bit. The ND weight being that of the NA is amazing but also the thing feels like it could rattle apart lol
-
@MidEngine The RF starts at $40,100 in Canada, + 13% tax and freight, you're looking at about $47,000 for the base model RF.
I paid 35 out the door for my BRZ, including the cost of borrowing.
Edit: BRZ w/ Brembos/Sachs

To be fair, the BRZ is an 8 year old platform while the ND RF is 5 years. Also, the power/weight is almost exactly the same now.

Are they really not selling buttloads of CX models?
-
@poor_sh not really
-
@arch-duke-maxyenko doesn't that show a pretty good increase over last year and during this ridiculous pandemic year?
-
If you have a Cayman street car and a Miata for the track, what is a new Miata going to add to your life? Diversify your
portfoliogarage. -
@poor_sh eh

lol honestly I just drive coupes. I'm thinking about going back to a 2011-2014 Mustang as a commuter cuz I had an 11' and a 14' and was very happy with every highway or road trip.
Also, with the current Miata on track only then I wouldn't have a convertible so that's what a new Miata is going to add back.
-
@arch-duke-maxyenko gotcha, well we'll see I guess.
-
@poor_sh
I think if anyone has the guts to stick to the traditional light and peppy roaster formula, itβs the guys at Mazda.From what I read, the current iteration now has the power it needs. Iβde love one for sure.

Bah, buy a cheap 124 Abarth and enjoy Italian looks with turbo power!
