A Toby anniversary
-
A year and a two days ago some dear friends of mine found a litter of 3 puppies that had been dumped down by the river.
A year and a day ago I went over to their backyard and met this guy. I sat down in the grass, and he immediately curled up in my lap. He was the shy, timid one of the bunch, and while his siblings ran around he spent most of that hour sitting in my lap watching the mayhem.
A year ago Toby came home on what was supposed to be a trial visit with Ellie. She was in love with him the second they met, and they've been inseparable ever since. Toby is the best thing I've ever done, and I will be forever grateful and in awe that then 13-year old Ellie met a stray puppy and decided raising him is her mission in life.

@EssExTee Ellie was invaluable raising him over the last year. Not only did she help provide adult supervision at all times, she also did the whole teaching him how to be a dog thing. Now they only play battle royale/doggie WWE for about 45 minutes to an hour a day. For this first six months or so, they played battle royale 4-6 hours per day. I have no idea how I would've replaced that energy expenditure without her.
Toby was actually amazingly effective at herding Ellie around the house as even a 10 week old puppy, and especially during battle royale sessions. One side effect of growing up with 80lbs of Ellie as a battle royale partner is that on the occasions when another dog has snapped at Toby he is completely non reactive. He just takes a step back and looks at the dog like "I've seen tougher."

@ITA97 I had quite a few drinks. I don’t think those are to blame for a tear in my eye. This is awesome.

To make it even more awesome, all three puppies were adopted to good homes by mutual friends of ours. They all stayed in the family, so to speak. Toby was reunited with his brother Rio a few weeks ago, and they were so happy to see each other. They're almost carbon copies of each other in both looks and personality.

@ITA97 Awesome! I’d love for Johnny to meet his siblings. I see them on breeders page, but can’t contact them. His whole litter looks almost identical too.
