I've always wanted a readers digest version of the answer to that question, and here it is!

      Pretty amazing.

@hammerheadfistpunch I'll have to watch that. All I know is that the eye is one hell of a lot better than any camera, especially when it comes to processing both light and dark at the same time. I think I read that if the bright spot and the dark spot of any shot is more than two stops apart, you're never going to get it in one take.

        That's what Photoshop is for....

Michael over at Vsauce did a similar video about 6 years ago, also pretty interesting. He has a ton of super interesting content on all sorts of topics, I suggest you check it out if you haven't.

@hammerheadfistpunch I came across this blog where he talks about the effects of focal length on photos. He even included some neat examples.

And if the gif doesn't work...

Never discount the possibility that you might live through it.

@bicyclebuck Wide angles compress, telephotos expand. Thats why 70-85 mm is portrait zone.

I'd be really interested in how the AI in the Iphone etc improve photos. I am amazed at how good my iphone photos look (to the non-photographer). Anyone know?

I’ve not had a lot of success finding deep detail, but if you search for “computational photography” you’ll find some good overviews, anyway.

Pretty much anything would be better than my eyes. If I broke my glasses I'd probably walk around with my phone camera on and just look at the screen to see.
