Tragically Hip...Canadian blues. Prove me wrong.

GODD I miss these guys.
-
@tophercrowder I absolutely love the Tragically Hip. Rarely gonna skip a song when they come on. I’m not super well versed in their discography, but Road Apples and Fully Completely are my favourite albums.
-
@CB The live album recorded at Detroit's Cobo Hall is close to my heart

-
@tophercrowder Well now I know what I'm listening to today.
-
The Hip are part of my culture, man, I grew up listening to this stuff (and I still do). We all knew it was coming, but man I got a big lump in my throat the day I heard that Gord Downie passed away...
I'm not a fan of live recordings, but I have to admit that Live at the Roxy May 3, 1991 is fucking amazing. (You can find it on YouTube or your streaming music service, the link wasn't working here.)
On the topic of Canadian greats, I hope that you also know Blue Rodeo.

@tophercrowder Great band. Although I bought 'Road Apples' when it came out, I rejected them shortly after because they got huge and I was alternative (just a cool word for loser) That's what teenagers do I guess.
As an adult, I appreciate their work a lot more. I remember listening to their final concert with a bunch of friends on a dock in the Kawarthas. Peak Canadiana.
@BJ. The 'killer whale tank' version of 'New Orleans is Sinking' from that show is a perennial favourite.

Wife bought me this

@tophercrowder One of my faves. Growing up on the border, our closest FM rock stations were Canadian, so we definitely got a good dose of the Hip. My favorite memory was when I lived in VA, they played a $3 concert in the park, nearly no security, a bunch of Canadian and NY ex-pats basically walking up to the stage while they were playing. I'm glad I got to see them live a bunch of times.
On the downside, I remember when they were supposed to play in Denver on Nov 1, 2009. The band had joked on their website, social media, somewhere, that they may be "too sick" to leave Las Vegas on Halloween night (they played Vegas the night before, on Oct 30), quite a while before the actual dates. Sure enough, we get to the venue that night in Denver, and the show was cancelled due to illness. I was quite ticked at the band for some time, and they never played another show in Denver.
Anyway, the whole fam watched the last concert on Youtube here in CO. The end of that show, I don't think there was a dry eye in the house.

@BJ took my mom to see Blue Rodeo.. in Brockville. Yup
-
@tophercrowder I once saw them play a bit of "Fire woman" by the cult live. in the middle of another song.
-
@tophercrowder The guy who was the subject of that song David Milgaard Passed away recently.

Road trip to Boston with friends, had tix to see SOAD/Kid Rock/Korn/Metallica. Turns out the Hip were playing a small venue the night before, so we scored tix for that show too. We were hanging outside the venue drinking beers the afternoon of the Hip show, met the band as they were getting ready for sound check. Great guys, especially Paul.
