      @415s30 That's an interesting feature...

      Presumably you could replace the bulb with an LED that would take forever to drain the battery?

          @facw Maybe, I'm not sure what bulb it is but there could be an LED equivalent.

              @PowderHound It's not much but if you had no other light it could be useful. I might look into an LED that would work.

                Ad absurdum per aspera @facw last edited by Ad absurdum per aspera

                @facw Indeed, like the mystery sorta parking light switch on the steering column of my Forester, or the ability of my Antichrysler to keep the back-seat makeup mirrors on when the car was turned off.

                My betters say this bulb is a BA9S, and LED replacements for it are readily available at various luminosities and price points.

                That said, even the lower power consumption of an LED bulb can run down the battery of a relatively seldom used hobby car. Bit surprised they didn't include a position sensitive switch of some kind in this surprisingly intricate little assembly as long as they were at it...

                    @415s30 that poor light looks beat. You should get a new/refurbished one.

                        @Highlander Perhaps one day, someday we'll pull the engine and paint in there plus change all the rubber bits... and the light.

                              @415s30 this reminds me, I’ve never actually bothered to figure out how one would turn on the under hood work light on my Milanos. Certainly all of my cars have dead bulbs, but I’ve never noticed a switch for them even if they weren’t

                                    @Highlander I'll probably refurbish the original one if we redid the whole engine bay. I found 3D printed lenses.

                                          @M-T-Blake Yeah it's wound around inside. I never use it, I think I took it al out once. It reaches around in the bay.

                                            @415s30 Cars never should have gone away from genius things like that. An under hood-mounted light only does so much... or now, nothing.

                                              @M-T-Blake Well you can't fix an EV by the side of the road and lots of cars have a plastic cover over the engine and so much crap you need a laptop just to diagnose it.
