Well, this is refreshing

From my neighborhood Next Door message board:
-
PLS share more about this SWAT incident.
-
@ttyymmnn This seems like poor use of officer time? Surely unless they have more police than they know what to do with (I bet if you check overtime payments they would indicate this is not the case), it would have been better to just hire a fencing contractor?
Still, it's at least good that they did make things right eventually.

Community service and building connections with the public is good police work.
-
@ForSweden But doing actual good police work, would be... better police work?
-
I assumed they were off duty.

If you do actual police work, the DA just decides not to prosecute murder suspects.
-
Hey, at least an ethics panel recommended impeachment for Ken Paxton today.

Maybe. But many cities will simply tell you too bad, we have governmental immunity, not our problem. I was actually just watching an episode of Lehto's Law on this topic at lunch today. So, I'll take this over that.
It's also entirely plausible the officers were doing this on their own time.

Those charges will likely also be dropped.
-
He’s been under investigation by the FBI since 2015 or so.
-
@ttyymmnn Any leftover materials for Afroman?
-
@ForSweden Sounds like they should get a better DA?
@ttyymmnn I wouldn't assume that, but if so, good for them.
Also @ttyymmnn this is getting into politics, but the the breakdown of relations with Paxton (still under indictment for felony securities fraud as far as I know?) and the Texas House has been interesting to watch. One assumes that calling out the House Speaker for being drunk a few days ago was because he knew this was coming (though the Speaker did seem drunk or otherwise impaired)

Sorry for partying
-
I tried Nextdoor years ago and quickly gave up as it was a cesspool of exaggerated complaints, whining, and outright false accusations.
-
@ForSweden There's a time and place for that, and one of your 140 working days (every two years) probably isn't the place for it?
-
Give the man a hammer
Shocked when he gets hammered
Makes you think -

Yeah, trying not to go there. But it's been interesting to see the right fracture. And unless Phelan was having a medical episode of some kind, he was more hammered than his gavel.

I got on their email list somehow, and I rarely click through to any articles because yes, it's incessant whining a bitching about how terrible this city is now.

Alternatively, they also could have just destroyed her house and left it in ruins. Fortunately she didn’t live in McKinney. Still working through the courts.

It’s one reason we chose to live here. Serve actually happening with Protect. As opposed to “Harass and Attack” so it’s a bit of fresh air tbh.

@ForSweden And altogether too rare.

I'm not saying they should ignore the guy getting beat up next door, but building relationships with the community is huge. You're either the nice cop that helped build the fence and is known in the community and trusted, or you're the asshole cop that wrecked the fence and was never seen again.
-
@ttyymmnn That was nice, but we know this is really Round Rock’s finest.
-
@ttyymmnn Woah, a nextdoor post that isn't either veiled racism or just open hostility?
