Same as it ever was.
-
cheaper to fly to Europe
-
Boycott COTA until they bring back Indycar
-
@davesaddiction Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it...
And they wouldn't be charging this much if people weren't willing to pay. If they cared about the fans, they'd have more races so there was less demand pressure.
-
Miami sold out, or close to it, but I’d be interested to know how many who were there would return for the same cost.
F1 is currently benefiting from the DtS bump, but I can’t imagine the in-person product they’re offering is terribly compelling for these newfound fans.
I guess we’ll see how the next few years shake out for the US events.
-
@davesaddiction its the us...prices are going to rise till they hurt attendance
long as some fucker is willing to pay....well
you have a lot of rich fuckers over there
i mean..apparently 100k income is middle class in some places
-
Median household income for Austin is $86k.

Median household income for Austin is $86k.
I wonder how much that has changed over the past 5-10 years vs. historical trends for the city.
-
@davesaddiction
Wow! $475 is....substantial. I think I paid $130AUD in 2019 for Melbourne for one day? Maybe, it was like $100USD.IIRC the first year was $150ish for all 3 days, or at least that's what I remember.
-
I was there, too. Seems about right.
-
@davesaddiction the coasts are higher

I looked it up: $159, all three days.
Other years, to compare:
$195 in 2019
$210 in 2021
$330 (!) in 2022, which was already enough to turn many locals away. I already felt like I was at an out-of-town grand prix as it was last year due to the number of regulars who nope'd out at this price, and this year's going to be worse.$475 is straight-up price gouging and something that will only turn away the kinds of fans who would otherwise show up for down years in the long run. Psst: If folks aren't biting at that price in one lump sum, that's your cue that it was too damn much to begin with.

Miami & Las Vegas aren’t.

@davesaddiction IndyCar folks. Weekend passes for my entire family to the Road America race were literally half that price, and we get full access to the paddock.
"Blah Blah Blah Spec-Car!" You say.
Who gives a fuck? Can you REALLY tell the F1 cars apart if they were all the same color? I bet you can't. Besides, in IndyCar, half the fuckin field has a legit chance to win on any given weekend.
-
@farscythe I'd say that saying 100k is middle class is almost too generous right now >_>
-
-
@davesaddiction Used to do 1-2 races a year but with how things were/are trending, I rather see a different series live like IMSA. Maybe MotoGP at CotA is still reasonable
-
@davesaddiction Yep, my best pal and I went in 2013 and it was something like $550 for the weekend but we were row 1 at turn 12. And yes...the sound. We were soo hungover on practice day when the cars came out. You feel it in your chest before you hear it with your ears! It was such a fun trip. Race cars, Mexican food, getting super drunk in Austin...we even squeezed in an EDM show somewhere in there.
The only bummer of the whole trip was that my debit card got skimmed somewhere along the way. My bank called but I told them not to shut off the card as I had it with me the whole time and it was the only thing I brought as far as money...So when I got home and found that it indeed had been skimmed, the bank made me file a claim for every single one of the 30+ fraudulent transactions.

I want to balk, but when I look at what top-tier concert tickets are, I realize that many people's value systems are a lot different than mine. I won't pay over $80 to see anything or anyone live, period. Nothing excites me enough...plus I usually have 4 people to buy for.
It would be nice if this included some meal tickets or something to sweeten the deal. That stuff gets gougey
-
@davesaddiction It's getting to the point where sometimes I get a tank of gas or some groceries and then when I look at my credit card balance online it gives me the option to pay for it in instalments.
-
@Shop-Teacher Indy access is insane. Especially for the price. Went to TX spring race a few years back for my buddy's bachelor party. I paid ~$400 for an infield RV spot on the turn 2 wall. That got us 10 or 15 all-access passes for the weekend. We got access to the garages and everything. That got me thinking about what it would cost for 1-day pit garage access for COTA. Lol, it was something like 5K/person for Friday, and closer to 7-8K for Sunday.

@davesaddiction I am all for growth of the sport, but at the same time I liked it when it was at least a little obscure, in the US at least.
-
Yep. Honestly, 2012 was a lot of fun, but already very “corporate” and gouge-y.
Can’t imagine how bad it is now.
