DATHD and Holy Shit That’s Awful

Down At The Hyundai Dealership. This is the sales manager’s car. I guess business is good.
I brought our 2013 Civic in for A1 service and walked across the street to see the Hyundai salesman who sold me our 2015 Civic. I’m looking now for another 2015 Civic so my 17yo twins won’t argue over which car they take to college next year.
The Honda dealership (they are all part of the Penske Group) had just gotten a 2015 Civic SE that hadn’t been detailed yet and we drove over to take a look. Service record looked ok, and it had some hail dings which I could bargain with, but boy howdy, the car was trashed inside. Didn’t even bother opening the door. I think the salesman was a bit embarrassed and made no effort whatsoever to sell me the car. I wouldn’t have taken it anyway, even after detailing. There’s one at a local Subaru dealership I’m looking at tomorrow.

I approve of the 454 swap, but do not approve of the wheel choice!
-
I wouldn’t kick it out of bed.
-
@ttyymmnn Nice Camaro, though RS bumpers on a standard front isn't a look that I care for. Easily fixed.
-

-
@ttyymmnn That is revolting. FWIW, go look at some Mazda3's. They are as good as honda in build quality but way nicer to drive. They punch above their weight.
-
The struggle is real
-
I would but, as I said, I’m trying to keep the playing field level for my twins.

As a former car salesman, that is a 4/10 on the horrible-o-meter. It's certainly not clean, but I have seen some truly vile trade-ins.
-
@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4
I’m sure have. I imagine it would even clean up pretty well. Owner was likely a smoker though, and his lack of concern for the interior almost certainly extends to a lack of concern for the rest of it.
-
@ttyymmnn Not exactly the kind of Pony car I'd expect to find at a Hyundai dealer
-
Me neither. Does it send a message when the sales manager doesn’t drive a company car?
-
@ttyymmnn It sure does
-
@ttyymmnn Yeah, it's not something that normal people would notice. On an actual RS front the driving lights/turn signals would be up beside the headlights and there is a urethane surround around the grill to, supposedly, protect the front where there's no metal bumper. There is something about the metal nose and the short bumpers that just doesn't look right to my eye. It's too pointy and sharp, I guess?
-
@ttyymmnn When I was selling Volvos, my GM had a new Silverado 2500 and '67 GTO, the new car manager had a new Sierra 1500, and the used car manager had a new Durango SRT. I was one of only six employees (out of ~45 total) in the entire dealership that actually drove a Volvo. And out of those six, three of them were P3s. Not sure if that says more about Volvo or about people in the south and their affinity for domestic trucks.

Might just be a 307 with some badges. That's an aftermarket hood.
-
@john-norris That would be disappointing. My gut feeling is that it is legit though. Looks like some effort went into it.

I don't see the problem

No problem, not everything is a rant. I was just pointing out the sad condition of the car. If anything, it's a compliment that the salesman wouldn't try to push me to buy the car anyway.

I'm one of the weirdos who really likes the bumperettes on the non RS front. I actually think it's the best looking setup on a 2nd gen.
Slap a more period correct set of wheels on it, swap the cowl hood for an L88 hood, and I'd drive the snot out of it.
Oh, and you'd have a heart attack if you saw what some of our trade ins look like before detail gets hold of them. That honestly didn't look that bad to me.

Oh, I'm sure there are much much worse. But that was a non-starter for me. There were other issues I didn't document.
-
@ttyymmnn That's absolutely fair. I'll admit the weatherstripping looked awful for a 2015.

It's starting to look that way on my own 2015 (and 2013). Thanks, Texas. Is that something I should look into getting fixed?
-
@ttyymmnn Does it leak? If not, you got time left.
