Engines that shouldn't have been available in my model

Volvo B5254T modular I5 (as @WhoIsTheLeader will attest):
Volvo B6324S normally aspirated SI6 (should've been the B6304T2/4/5 turbo instead):
What have you?

Mods, this theme day must end now

@aremmes
Chevy Vega engine.
Aluminum unlined (except by silicon nodule) block with iron head. Truly, it was the worst.
If I had a Vega, YEET.

I've got one of those (well close enough anyway). I apparently have never taken a picture of my engine bay, so let's just pretend it is this clean:

W8 Passat
Way too cramped and front-heavy, and at about double the price of the entry-level 1.8t models (which had their own problems), it was a tough pill to swallow in the early 2000s for customers eying a $40k VW when an average car was just $25k. And it was not that much quicker than the V6 models that cost almost $10k less.
The reality is it was just more of a testbed for the Phaeton. So despite the failure, the Phaeton still went full steam ahead, with predictable results.
-
@facw It's a fine engine, it just shouldn't have been tasked with hauling 2.5 tons of Gothenburgian steel.
-
@aremmes you could fill this list almost entirely with Cadillac - Olds 302 diesel, V8-6-4, HT4100, Northstar
-
@aremmes I'd guess an I5 would have been fine had they used the R's B5254T4 instead of the 2.5T's B5254T2...
Though really even for a car that big, ~210HP should be drivable, just not quick.

I feel targeted. The XC90 I just helped my mom buy has the NA 3.2. It's adequate and has good low down torque.
Way more appropriate than the 2 5T
-
Toyota Tundra 3.4 V6. Yes, it was very durable, but so was the 4.7. It gets the exact same mpg (16 combined, so bad) as the V8 but makes less power.
-
@WhoIsTheLeader Good in the more appropriately sized taco and 4Runner though
Though if I'm speaking with my wallet, I had the 4runner with the 4.7 as well -
@aremmes I guess they figured the V8 was enough. The T6 (B6304T4) of the SI6 is an absolute monster of an engine, though. With the Polestar pack like mine it handily beats the hp and torque figures of the V8 and is probably more engine than the XC70 really ought to have.
