Highlights:
- 6.4-liter V8 w/ 470-horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque w/ cylinder deactivation
- 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.0 seconds
- TorqueFlite Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission w/ paddle shift
-
Great, we can roll it over even faster now!
-
It's hard to keep hating FCA when their main go-to for innovation is "well, just throw a hemi in it!!"
-
Can we get a RWD version with the Viper 6-speed and side pipes instead of rock sliders?
-
@just-jeepin What no 5.7 option? I think I'll wait until the straight 6 dual turbo one comes out.

This has to be the dumbest Jeep, right? David (and World War II to a larger extent) have proven that you need only about 1/8 the power this has to do everything off road. This is the dick extension to end all dick extensions.
-
@sovande Historically the CJs had some solid V8s, so this could simply be considered a return to form.
470HP is a bit much, but the 4 door models have been a little underpowered, so now we just swing the other direction.

But it's much better at commuting, which is what 95% of people will do here in SC with one of them.
-
It's not better at commuting though. It's just louder at commuting and burns more fuel.
-
@just-jeepin So it's basically a loaded 4 door Rubicon with a lift and bigger engine. Pricing has to be in the $60k+ range.
It's neat that it exists, and will definitely sell, but it will be a poor value and terrible to live with after the novelty wears off. People are gonna be wrecking them left and right due to the extra powahhhhh, but still crappy steering and poor on-road handling from the lift and tires.

Everything needs a V8 option, I declare your opinion invalid
-
@just-jeepin Now in the Gladiator plz. That's the one that actually interests me
-
@e90m3 470hp for commuting?
-
@carsoffortlangley Too much is never enough.
-
@carsoffortlangley It'll help them ride everyone's bumpers at 15+ over.
-
-
@Just-Jeepin I'm with you and have some nostalgia for the old V-8 CJs, I think this is sweet!
-
I discussed with my Dad. He's jazzed because he's a big Jeep guy. Overall, I'd rather have the 3.0 diesel though
-
So... inevitable Hellcat variant incoming?
-
@sovande How do you expect people to sleep once they get outdoors? You need a 400hp V8 to pull your indoors into the outdoors.
On a related note, I see at least 3-4 modern trucks pulling trailers pulled off to the side of highway every time I head into the mountains. The Mogollon Rim is a doozy.

It is dumb, but 'mericans will be tripping over themselves to buy it so FCA may as well make it.
-
@sovande I mean, I see no reason to criticize a powerful V8 in a cool off-road vehicle.
Some of the coolest cars out there have unnecessary features.

Holy shitsnacks! Welcome to the Hyphen party.

@just-jeepin Thank you!

It's just another example of a complete lack of imagination. Make something interesting instead of jacking up a stock Jeep and adding power that serves no useful purpose.
I get it. It's fun. And it will sell and I'm not the audience. I'm just bored by manufacturers adding additional suspension stuff and giant engines and I'm more bored that the automotive public is still lapping it up.
