@dogisbadob
Just with the cam gears. A few spot welds to keep them from slipping fixes the issue. -

@RazoE Corvair air-cooled flat six?
Sure, there were a bunch of body styles and some were vans and pickup trucks, but they were all called Corvairs, and all built on the Corvair platform.
Also the birotor engine in the NSU Ro80 was never used in anything else IIRC:
Also, Duesenberg only built the Model J, therefore its twin-cam straight eight was only used in one model.

The 5-cylinder was also used in the first-gen TL 96-98.
Fun fact: the 2.5TL and 3.2TL were completely different cars from the firewall forward. Different fenders, hood, headlights, and bumpers to accommodate the respective engines (i5 or V6), both longitudinal.

How about this one:
Does anyone recognize it?
No one seems to have replied, so here is a hint: 4-cylinder, air-cooled Boxer engine. Not German.

Citroën GS would fit the bill. I can't think of anything else.

You are correct.
However, I did once see some kind of kit car at a show that used the engine -- I recognized the engine immediately, which I doubt many other people did.
Since it was a kit car (I think), I believe the engine still qualifies for this topic.

@RazoE The twin rotor in the RO80 was mentioned, you also have the single rotor Wankel in the NSU Spyder.
-
Citroën M35 also
The CX was originally intended to have the Ro80's engine, which ended up breaking both companies...
