I was interested to learn that the MD of Mad Dog 20/20 is actually from Mogen David, a company that dates back to just before Prohibition and went into business making sacramental and medicinal wines. After prohibition, they made Kosher wine, specifically for Passover. Mad Dog is a fortified wine, meaning increased alcohol level without an increase in price.

Then you move up to the fancy stuff, like Alize and Boone's Farm.

I fully admit that our home's "EDC wine" is a box of Wine Cube (Target) or Bota Box. Usually pinot grigio or chardonnay, under $20 for 3L almost everywhere. To lighten it up, I like to use a hefty splash of a good, spicy traditional ginger ale. It's amazing and comes out like a cross between a wine spritzer and a Moscow Mule. I would never do that to an expensive wine, it just feels wrong.

I actually like red wine better, but I don't like my teeth and poop to be that color

We are definitely not wine snobs.

I had a friend who was a real wine, food, cigar connoisseur. I asked him once what is a good bottle of wine. He said, "A good bottle of wine is one you like."

@ttyymmnn that is very true advice, my favorite stuff that I've ever had is from a moderately priced touristy vineyard in Virginia, but damn is it good. Also, Riuniti Lambrusco is a simple pleasure, it tastes like alcoholic grape juice, sometimes that's all you want

Edit: looks like they say it's actually wine. Sounds to me like you're better off with normal wine or sparkling grape juice.

@3point8isgreat oh yeah, it's wine, just very surgery, syrupy wine. It's similar to what a lot of churches use for communion wine, since people who aren't used to drinking alcohol are less likely to have a gag reaction and spit it out, while those who are can at least tolerate it even if they don't like it
