Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...

...definitely a plane. Cropdusting season here - looks like fun.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi vintage chemtrails 🥰

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi crop-dusting is so cool of a job. I credit a lot of my love for aviation with watching crop-dusters when I was young. My cousin's had a big farm in Mississippi and I spent some time down there as a kid. Watching the crop-dusters blow by so low and fast was so damn cool!

-
@ttyymmnn Probably not, from the pilot’s perspective. It’s a dangerous enough game already…
-
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi When I was a teen, the crop duster at the farm next door crashed in the field and died, so yeah.

You know what would make a crop duster better?
A jet engine. --The Soviets. -
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi my coworker’s brother did it for a while. His entire family begged him to stop because it’s so dangerous. He got a good gif working on them instead and flies his Piper for fun.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi that's not pesticide it's MIND CONTROL DRUGS

Hmmm, ammonium nitrate plus naked flame. Sounds like fun.
-
@EssExTee They’re too late. Bill Gates controls my mind already.
-
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi Air Tractor. Those pilots are crazy. Diving UNDER power lines and whatnot.
-
The hell is that??

@ttyymmnn
One of the planes that usually makes "ugliest airplanes ever made" lists.

@Demon-Xanth that's epic, a 200km/hr jet!

Used to see them all the timeinover the cotton fields of NW NSW.One of them managed to disconnect the town and the district from the electricity supply after lining up his run too early, realising the two wire line was there and attempting to get underneath it, failing, leaving both lines cut and the vertical part of the tail tumbling to the ground. Old Mate landed the plane safely back at the airstrip without further incident...
-
@jminer We don't get the planes around here, I imagine because of the topography and smaller fields, but the heli dusters are nuts
-
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi This feels like a job that sure to be replaced by some sort of drone aircraft within a decade or two...
-
@pyroholtz I get to occasionally watch folks doing crop dusting around here. It strikes me a way more than fun than average gig for pilot. I want to say relatively few other pilots get to spend that much time towards the edge of a flight envelope outside of maybe hotshot pilots.
-
@facw if you follow the “automate the dangerous jobs first” school of thinking, it sure looks like a contender, doesn’t it.
Payload might be an issue though, unless the drone is basically a self-piloted Airtractor. Those things carry 2 tons of fertiliser, and he was reloading every third pass - he must have dropped 40 or 50 tons during the day. You’re not doing that in a hurry with an electric quadcopter with no access to power for recharging.

This is the correct take,
Very dangerous flying with a side order of toxic chemical exposure. -
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi unless he bins it.
-
@pyroholtz "patina"
-
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi Yeah, you wouldn't be doing it with a little electric quadcopter anyway. But from both a safety perspective, and from the needs of precision agriculture, it seems like something that a computer would be better suited for.
