Overlanding adjacent

Overlanding? Off-roading? Softroading? I don’t know but I went on a little journey this past weekend that started off with a night camping in the desert then driving through a canyon. It was rad. The truck handled it like a champ and then it didn’t and I had to replace the battery and starter in a gas station parking lot.
Here are some photos that will be posted out of order
Then I saw a cleaner but IFS doppelgänger of my truck and a ratty 280z

Fantastic.

@PowderHound love the vibe of the old truck and the canyon. Looks exceptionally green. Never seen it like that. How was the trail? Which way did you do it?
-
@PowderHound That 280 has seen some shit, perhaps more than your Toyota.

@PowderHound I loved seeing all the petroglyphs in UT, I was an archeology major. Yeah I need to get my truck to UT somehow when it's done, but it probably won't be driving there at the rate it could.

@HammerheadFistpunch everything was crazy green! Even Moab when I was going through was the most green I’ve ever seen. Trail was fine. A couple clunky steps to go over but I was going down them the whole time. The trail is real tight so I’m some spots I can’t imagine a full size truck down there. I did it from west to east, never used 4WD and only saw one guy on a bike at the start and a group of retirees in side by sides after I left the big petro wall

@Highlander I was honestly surprised it was running and in the rain no less

@415s30 take backroads. Then you won’t feel so slow on highways
-
Amazing shots, I just want to go scrambling over all those rocks now.
My first trip out West was 1989 to SW CO. Of all the cool stuff we saw, I think the most life-changing thing I learned was that there are places where you can just park your car, get out, and walk away legally up a mountain (or drive down a random dirt road). That kind of thing almost doesn't exist in the East.
-
@PowderHound Yeah but its a long way. I thought about renting a truck and flat towing it. If it was a big trip I could just have it shipped. I will try it out in the Tahoe area first anyway.
-
@PowderHound Looks amazing
-
@PowderHound fantastic photos - looks like a really good outing!
I'd also definitely call this overlanding

Took my visual cortex a few moments to realize this was two photos rather than one serious obstacle...

@Ad-absurdum-per-aspera Hope you have a 90-degree breakover angle...
