A child's life, ruined

It's such a sad photograph.
By peering inside this grotesque 125p estate this little boy has sealed his fate. Once you get enticed by the siren's call of an FSO there's no going back. Over the years this fascination is going to take permanent hold in his mind and once he's an adult he's going to want an FSO of his own. From then his life will be truly over. He'll be branded as an FSO owner for life, stuck driving these horrific abominations. He'll likely join a forum too, post photos of his car, further spreading this horrible plague.
Also, this is not my photo, in case you were wondering. I don't take creepshots of random kids.

It could be worse.
Could be peering into the blue Fiat Seicento.
From there they could go onto the Cinquecento, then a Multipla and then maybe, I'd dread to think, the poor poor child a Fiat 500L or 500X.
There only real pleasure would be going back in Fiat history, not forward, taking in the elegant Tipo, Uno and Tempra. -
Mmmmm...FSO.

Run, while you still can! You don't want this life! The Puffalumps don't want this life!

I WANT THIS LIFE
-
@stef-schrader I mean, look at the photo. You think everything's so ugly and grey because it's November? Nope! It's the FSO that's sucking out all the colours from its surroundings.

A 125P’s just a Fiat 125 with half the bits pre-fallen-off, right? I could see how that could look pretty attractive after a few years of owning a real Fiat and watching them fall off one by one.

I own a VW 411. I am scared by no car.
-
@distraxi It kinda is but not really. While the 125p inherited the 125 body (albeit with slightly different trimmings and headlights), the mechanicals are a mix of Fiat 125 and older Fiat 1300/1500 bits. The "p" also didn't get Fiats great twincams (well, some special editions got them, but not cars you could actually buy) and had to settle with the older Lampredi designed OHV. Bits falling off however is something the 2 versions have in common.
-
@stef-schrader you have obviously never encountered the finest efforts of British Leyland then. Twenty years after Mrs Distraxi owned one as her first car, I still quake in fear at the sight of an Austin 1100. And I speak as someone who’s owned more than one old Jag.

Haha. I've had friends with BL convertibles and such. Still ain't scared.
-
@borsuq Especially when they are a rebadged Dodge Journey.
However, I am a former Lada Niva owner so I'm guessing I'm well beyond the Threshold.

I'm actually on a half hearted look out for a complete and potentially running example of the Morris iteration...

@stef-schrader Brave words.
Ah well, one day when you find yourself changing the rear engine mount of anything built on an ur-Mini platform, I still have the cut down, ground thin and bent 60 degrees 1/2” spanner that you can slide down between engine and firewall and hit with a hammer while holding it on with your thumb to get the nut off 1/8 turn at a time. You’re welcome to borrow it: it’s marginally easier than dropping out a rusted-on subframe.

@silentbutnotreallydeadly but...but...why?

@silentbutnotreallydeadly but...but...why?
Some people want an overpowered chilly bin loaded with beer and others want an underpowered lounge chair with dodgy lighting...I'm one of the latter.
-
@silentbutnotreallydeadly I’m totally down with that preference - probably half the cars I’ve ever owned have been in the “0-60 eventually, but at least I’ll be comfy while I wait” class. I just like the ones that break all the time to be not-horrible to work on. The 1100’s got all the downsides of a Mini without the upside.
-
@distraxi I'm just another king of wishful thinking...

But I've never even see a 126p or an FSO and yet I want both....am I broken?
-
@borsuq
Ooooh, a Seicento!
That reminds me. I saw a Cinquecento the other day That's a sight now rarely seen. -
@cé-hé-sin I bloody hope they're not all gone yet, I still need to get a CC Sporting at some point.
-
I think it was a Sporting, too!
-
@borsuq But how else is it supposed to appear orange and cheerful? Reminds me of other orange things that suck the life out of everything for attention. Yeah, that pumpkin on my desk needs to go.
-
@rallydarkstrike You've seen a 500. Once I saw my first 2CV it was all over for me even though I still haven't seen a DS. Same story.
