Hello on yet another new platform!
Did the fall exterior detail on the 02 on Sunday. First wash with all my new gear! I usually scramble to get it all done as fast as possible but this time I took my time with the glaze and wax. Those sorts of products are MUCH nicer to use when you slow down a bit.
Wash: Chemical Guys - Citrus Wash&Glow
Clay: Griots Garage synthetic clay
Glaze: CG Wet Mirror Finish
Wax: Collinite 845 Insulator Wax -
@Tripper Hello! That is a beautiful car you have and love seeing it
-
@jminer Hey Thanks! This car has really done wonders for my mental health.
-
What a great color! I'm not knowledgeable on BMWs, but is this a body kit with, maybe a deleted rear bumper, or was it always that way?
-
Lovely.
Question: the guy I bought my SS from didn't use best practices, and there are some very light scratches in the clear that are visible in direct sun (I'm the only one who will ever notice, but I do notice them...). A quote from my detailer for paint correction is more than I'm willing to pay. Is there a product you've used for this, or is the only real way to get rid of them with a random orbital an a very light polish?
Question 2: what about ceramic coat? Ever done this yourself, or is it more of a pro job?
-
@idiotinthegarage Thanks! It's a Euro market car. So at one point it had chrome bumpers (far more tasteful than the stickity out NHTSA US spec ones). However, the front was ditched for the air dam and as you suggested, the rear was removed. Flares were also added.
-
Ah - looks great!
-
@davesaddiction I've talked to Svend about this a couple of times. We both agreed that if it comes out with an over the counter product like Mequiars scratch X, awesome. If not live with it or have it done professionally. Shop around for paint correction I got a HUGE range when looking for the M3. Some guy wanted 6k lololol
I haven't, I'll lean on Svend for this assuming he makes it over the fence. I have seen it done professionally and wouldn't DIY based on that, however there are a lot of products out there for DIY applications.

Always upvote green 02

@tripper I will have to try Scratch X. My guy is very good and reasonable - quoted $1500 for full paint correction and ceramic coat on the front half of the car (whole car would've been $500 more). Maybe I'll pay it eventually, just not now...

CG seems to get a lot of hate in some detailing groups, but I find they're decent when I get them on sale. Coincidentally I also got some Collinite recently, lol.
-
@tonicipriani Weird, what do detail groups like? I buy from Griots Garage, CG, Zymol, Adams, and now Gtechniq...They all seem like the same shit with really neat labels.
-
@tripper Man I love that car....also, in that second picture...behind the Chemical Guys bottle...is it sad that I thought that bag was full of licorice at first?
-
@tripper Well in the AutoDetailing subreddit, seems like there are always posts saying get something else. I hear Collinite, Meguiars way more often. But then I guess some of them are pro detailers so maybe they go for the expensive stuff.
-
@tonicipriani Yeah I love Meguiars stuff, but most of the shops only stock a few of their products which is annoying
