So about that Ducati...
-
I crashed. I was on a ride in the Sierra foothills near Pine Flat Lake, and swung too wide on a turn, caught dirt, and went down. My right hand caught the bracket that holds the brake fluid reservoir between my index finger and thumb, and broke the bone at the base of my thumb near the wrist. They put two pins in that are now out.
The bike was rideable, so I rode 50 miles home with a broken right thumb. There is no cell service up there. I lost my Breitling in the crash, which was the worst part. The good news is that I paid for lots of insurance, so I got MSRP on a 2020 Supersport instead of Blue Book on my 2019. I ended up with $2000 more than I paid for it. So now I'm shopping. I can get a 2020 Supersport S in white (basically the same bike), I am considering the new Aprilia RS 660 that will be here in December, or the new Supersport that arrives in February or March (Ducati is putting details on YouTube on Wednesday). The key will be how bad I want the new Supersport and if I am willing to wait. Toby and I traveled this weekend, so I went to an Italian bike dealer and saw some things I liked.
The Tuono V4 Factory is cool as hell, but may be too much bike for me.
Superveloce 800 is highly impractical but it makes me feel funny when I see it. If I want to spend $20000, they will sell me this:
I am about 2 weeks from being able to ride, so we will have to see how it plays out. Here is Toby on the beach for your time, and a rare Alfa we saw at the harbor.
Is it possible to post more than one pic at a time here? I am on my phone, maybe computer is better. -
Dude glad your ok,
What happen to the wife’s car and the Thunderbird? -
Damn, I'm glad to hear you're doing pretty well all things considered.
-
@wacko I need to rebuild the carb on the X19, and I have been stockpiling T Bird parts
-
Glad to see those projects are still on.
-
Oh that's a huge picture of things in skin I didn't want to see!
- Welcome back!
- Get that old school bike
- Glad you are relatively OK after that crash
-
I forgot, you ended up selling the Cressida, right?
-
those pins look like a Bennett's fracture. hope you heal up well.
-
Do you still have the first bike you got to ride while you wait to buy new? I don't remember if you traded it on the Duc
-
Ouch. That sucks.
-
@interstate366 replaced with x19
-
@poor_sh I sold it, but if I really like it, it will be worth the wait
-
Looks like the Ducati didn’t make enough of an impression to swear you off bikes!
I love the look of that Alfa.
-
Glad it wasn't more serious man and your on the road to recovery.
I was going to mention the RS 660. I think it's a tad more on the sporty side than the SuperSport unless Ducati is doing some revisions to make it more aggressive. As a bike I've heard it's excellent, although I've heard from numerous people the Aprilia ownership experience is questionable.
On the personal side, I have mine locked up for winter.
-
@exage03040 one of my biggest hesitations with Aprilia is no dealer local to me
-
@xsnowpig that Bennett guy can fuck right off. That shit hurt
-
@immoralminority Welcome back, glad you only hurt your thumb, although that looks unpleasant. I shattered my collarbone in March trying to get back into motorcycles.
Any photos of the damaged bike? I can imagine a working car getting totaled, but it's confusing that you were able to ride a bike that had to be totaled. I guess that since I paid my friend about 15% of the value of his bike to fix minor damage, so I assume a lot of valuable body work on the Duc got smashed?
-
Glad to hear you made it out relatively unscathed. Can't wait to see how the cycle shopping goes.
-
It didn't look bad, but Ducati parts are expensive. Fairings were $550 apiece, one fork was scratched - $2500. Water pump cover was $1500. Lots of smaller things plus labor became a $10000 repair estimate. If I had pushed, they would have fixed it, but why not get MSRP on a new one?
-
@ImmoralMinority Will you be able get back on the Vespa sooner than a full-size bike?
-
@ita97 my guess is yes. I see the doc on Wednesday. I also have an appointment that day with my bank to apply for my PPP loan forgiveness, and a tent goes on my house for termites same day. So that day is gonna suck
-
@immoralminority That sounds like an important day. I'm curious how the tent thing goes. I've never actually seen it done in person, so my imagination goes straight to Breaking Bad.
-
Damn, just glad you're OK @ImmoralMinority ....the crashes are what worry me about bikes. I know if nothing happens you'll be fine, but the fact that you ARE the crumple zone should anything happen would always be at the back of my mind!
-
@ita97 I had it done on the first house I owned. Imagine spending enough for a fun project and just getting a stinky house. Our cats have to get boarded, and Max is especially unhappy
-
Good to see you around again. Sorry to hear about the unexpected dismount. Hope you heal quickly and have better luck with the next bike.
